I took the exhaust from the cat back off today to see what i was up against, and to be honest it looks fairly straight forward. The car has a fair bit of room underneath to move (When you remove the spare)
I will copy the existing alignment from the cats to the first muffler using 2.5" pipe, From there the RHS will go from the muffler into a hotdog at the rear then win tips, The LHS will need to be bent around then finished the same, Hotdog and twin tips. I have also gotten access to a hoist which will make things heaps easier! Thoughts? Cheers Alan

I agree completely, a hoist takes out most the hard work.
Just had a quick skim back through, I don't think you've mentioned what you're welding it with

I made my own as no one wanted to fit twin 3" on an EB..[Turbo engine]
Even made my own muffler as I couldn't buy a single muffler with two 3" in & out each side.. The twin pipes had to crossover to drivers side.. I bought more bends than I needed with some dog bones etc to add any slight angles you don't see.. In my case it's mild steel with s/steel muffler.. The harder material of stainless makes the harder sound compared to mild steel.. The tail pipe size will determine big time the sound & effectiveness of muffler/s... Obviously bigger after muffler's will be louder...

I haven't yet really discussed too much about the welding side of things, what would the opinions be of the better type of weld? I will most probably go mig tho as he has the tools to do so.
EBXR8380 - Making your own muffler is pretty cool mate! Could you get much of a range of tips with the 3 inch end? I think 2.5" out the back will do the job for me. I'm currently driving around with only the one muffler on ( so i have no rear muffler and no tips at the back (Naughty i know ) Bt it sounds so much better already! haha

You might find the twin 2.5" tips might be a bit small. Maybe twin 3" tips? I had twin 2.5" tips on mine and they just looked too small for the size of the car. I've now got a single 3.5" tip and i reckon its still a bit small for the car.

Yea could be on to something there, I'll have to have a look at whats around. Although i think the ones on it standard are twin 2" and they don't look too undersized.

Haha, Nice one Ash.
I'm not sure if i like the chamfered look on the tips on the previous page i put up, I think flush/straight cut tips would look nice.

migging makes it alot quicker and easier. tig would be the best quality weld however would well outlast the pipe lol.
my exhausts are all tigged 316 tube & 'mandrel' fittings but only due to easy supply and as i was hinting at before, probably massive overkill for an exhaust hehe..

Overkill but if you got the time and resources then why not? haha
That X pipe is pretty interesting, but it is made up for a 2.25" system where as i'm going 2.5", thanks for that though.

The drop in pipe size will have no effect on the flow for your motor. Here is a post i made in another thread about pipe sizes and flow areas:
Twin 2.25 should be fine even for a modified windsor. Thats still a large flow area. 2 x 2.25" exhaust = 350mm2 flow area 3" exhaust = 235mm2 flow area 3.5" exhaust = 275mm2 flow area Dropping to the 2.25" for the x pipe will cause a different flow rate and the venturi effect. X pipes increase flow speed anyway so there is nothing to worry about dropping to the 2.25" for that part of the exhaust. Plus x pipes do give a nice note.

Fair point you make sir, as i am no welding expert, how would one join the X to the 2.5" pipe for the rest of the system?
