I have been looking at quite a few manifolds lately, but have come accross a manifold called the typhoon on ebay, the looks of it rings a bell but not 100% sure.
Justwondering what these manifolds are like compared to the explorer, cobra or some of the aftermarket manifolds on the market. here is the link on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... Track=true cheers\\ Ben

Many buyers have found the casting quality to be low but for a chinese knockoff, they're cheap.

Its a copy of the Edelbrock Performer, not a bid thing. Apparantly the casting is not the best quality...
EDIT: Just saw the current bid price ($255), thats a bit of a bargain to say the least. |

Typhoon intakes are dead cheap but a number of owners on other forums have found that they need to clean up and correct some areas of the casting before they're happy with it. If they have to spend money and get someone to clean out all the ports or perform a similar correction to get the upper & lower to fit right, then maybe the total money they spend on it ends up being on par with just getting a FRPP style manifold.

Why would you bother? By the time you get it match up with an Edelbrock Performer it'd be quicker, cheaper and easier to buy the real thing.
If you want more; Edelbrock Performer RPM or one of the new Air Gap manifolds. |

If you want more; Edelbrock Performer RPM or one of the new Air Gap manifolds. because for some of us the satisfaction of doing it is half the fun. cheaper i think not. do you know the price of an edelbroke RPM or RPM2?? even if you spent $150 on the stock explorer manifold, thats still over $500 dollars saved with a bit of time spent there would be some very good gains to be had |

Explorer ain't stock on an NL. Late EL XR8 was the only E-Series to cop it. I dunno if I'd bother playing with the HO, there's always a few Explorers floating around, and they should flow enough for most peoples purposes.

G'day Tickford_6,
Actually I do. I know exactly how much an Edelbrock manifold is. I also know how pathetic the replicas are when sat side-by-side with the original. In all seriousness, the replicas really are that bad. The core shift is disgusting. |

was just a cheap option that works well if you already have an explorer and like tickford 6 said you do get a bit of satisfaction out of doin something different than just byin parts and bolting on each to there own, bit of fun in the garage if you like that sort of thing

yeh get an edelbrock n bolt it on, instead of buying the cheap one, spending a few hundred and some gettin it to work properly, and at the end of the day u still got a knock off chinese manifold..

I've seen a few people buy these before and in every case they've been overwhelmingly dissappointed with the outcome (ported or not). Leave them alone. Buy a decent Explorer manifold, a six pack and spend two hours cleaning up the lower or fork out some $$ for original Eddies. Don't waste time with this rubbish.
