Was adding water to washer bottle when i noticed a plug hole and no plug plugged into this hole in the air intake tube between the MAF and throttle body on my AU XR8.

I found the black charred remains of the plug and wire hanging down beside the exhaust.

What is this plug and what does it do?

What will be the result of this plug not being plugged in?

I think this is where they stuck the Air Charge Temperature (ACT) sensor on the AUs.

The E-Series have it in #5 cylinders lower manifold track.

If the EEC doesn't know the temperature then it wont be able to compensate for dense/thin air. Maybe not a big problem on a V8 cos we have MAF but a 6 would be bad.

You maybe be too lean on a cold day and too rich on a hot day. I am assuming that the EEC defaults to 20 C with a f**k sensor, much like the climate control does.

Could this be making it run a bit rough at idle?

The EEC needs both MAF voltage (air flow) and air temp to calculate the actual amount of air entering the engine, so not having a functioning ACT sensor will throw out load and fuel calculations.

If the senser is o/k then try fitting it back and fixing up burnt wire...
If it runs better you know why it was running the way it was....
Get another senser anyway....What you may save in fuel would easy pay for it....

Hopefully ford will replace it today.

Took it back to get warranty work done that wasnt fixed before i picked up the car.

Clutch fuked, diff clunking, power windows gay, interior lights gay, console gay.

Wont be happy if they dont repair it.

Are you talking about the MAF plug? I know that if it is unplugged then your AF ratio is going to be well off and the engine while running richer will have the RPM's "hunt" when it comes off throttle going into idle.

Nah think its the air charge temp sensor.... HO manifold like ours has em tapped into the lower intake manif.... AU has them in the intake plumbing IIRC.

BTW ebbes if there has been a hole in the intake plumbing after the MAF then the air calculations would be even further off.... has the poor thing been running like s**t?

Not like s**t but definate loss of power and responsiveness.
It's been hard to tell coz of the clutch situation not locking up 100%.
I'll let you know what ford think.
