have picked up a ported lower ho manifold cheep was wondering if I can get a mild bumpstick that'll work with the stock lifter's and springs to take advantage of the better breathing.
I'm doing the water pump when I do the intake so I figure it's not that much more work. and if I can just drop a cam in without doing pushrods and stuff why not. people forget if you ask stupind questions but when you make a stupid mistake the create email's to tell the whole world.

Just stick with the stock cam IMO. It's not a bad cam anyway and nearly all the aftermarket ones need better springs and won't give you huge gains unless you change the heads too.

I ran a B303 cam with a completely stock valve train and never had any dramas, although that cam dont have a huge lift increase, mainly just more duration.

Yes one point about alpha cams is they had soft ramps that made it easier on valve train..Even the F303 with all its lift faired o/k..For power they still have it but maybe lack alittle lower torque?...Under 1500 rpm...

thank's for responses guy's but it's stupid question time could you define alpha cam's I assume it means first incarnation but what brand and so forth are they.
roller rockers would be ace but trying to keep cost down already spending money earmarked for the effie. I don't want to loose to much low end torque the old whale she be a heavy old girl. and I understand the more low end torque the better fuel econemy you get. at 72 bucks for a tank of premium can't afford to loose to many more kays out of a tank. thank's again or the feedback hope for more and have a good weekend ![]()

Ford Motorsport cams Ie E303, B303, X303 etc are known as alphabet cams. |

A while back I sent an email off to www.cammotion.com about good cam for our heavy cars with hi diff ratio's told them all specs of an A.U ..Came back with these specs...Said we didn't want to loose low end power and keep some fuel economy for auto also..This was the response...A cam could be ground here with similar specs...
This is what we would reccomend: Grind # X2161-12+4 Dur @ .050 216 intake and exhaust Lift 531 intake and exhaust Lobe seperation 112 Intake centerline 108 Thank you, Carolyn ----- Original Message

I don't really know much about cams but the lift on that baby sounds a bit much for a mild cam.

What they're doing here is upping the lift to compensate for the lack of duration....216@ .050" is pretty small so they have to bring the lift up to .531" to produce the area under the curve. It's borderline with such low duration @ .050" but on a 302 it would likely need notches in the pistons. Pete. |

That was with 1.72 roller rockers as the guy who was asking already had them and wanted a cam not as angry as 2031...So on 1.6 ratio it would be close to .500 at valve...That cam would be o/k with GTP heads and std valves but heads like AFR 185's deffinately need piston notching..Or atleast check..

He he sounds like someone didn't check? Reminds me of someone who stuck an F303 and checked without taking into account lifter preload(basically didn't shim the rockers). Ended up machining a notch in one piston and then discovered it wasn't needed....pretty expensive to buy one original Ford TRW piston it was. Pete. |

I used the stock HO manifold and heads (both home ported), stock maf and TB, with YT 1.72:1 rockers, and exhaust.
That got the Ghia into the 14 sec zone. I would go some 1.7 rockers before a cam, though it does limit your choice of cams if you do decide to go that way. The stock springs will be ok with 1.7 rr, but a new cam will require new springs (and probably retainers & keepers) dalesf150 your manifold should arive this week some time, if it hasn't already.

Change the maf,to 70mm and you'll realy notice the difference....
