Hi, I have fitted a GT camshaft out of a EL to a completely new 302 windsor for my AU, after a while I also fitted some bolt on yella terra 1.7 RR's since I have noticed when the motor gets into the higher rev range it gets a bit of a rattle in it, is that normal for roller rockers or should the springs be upgraded, thanks

Check your lifter pre-load. It should be around 60 thou. Often those "special" camshafts have a smaller base circle which reduces pre-load, sometimes to the point of it becoming zero. A rattly valve train is the result, and continued operation causes damage.
Also those Yella Terra rockers have occasionally suffered from soft pushrod cups. I had an engine through the workshop with several. There was about 100 thou lash for one of the rockers. The pushrod cup was almost worn away to nothing.

Ok Thanks, I will check it and the rockers, a rattling drive train would be a more apt description , the rattling has only been noticable since I fitted the roller rockers, I never noticed any noise when the standard rockers were fitted and that was for a few months. have had the rr's fitted for about 10 months has had the rattle the whole time, you can only notice it when the revs get up but has not got any worse.

not to nit pick, but a rattling valve train is what you have.

I would add better valve springs.. If the rockers have 1;7 ratio over std
that would cause valve float at higher rpm if valve springs are soft.. Also check clearance with breather baffles on your rocker cover...

Thanks,I have alloy mustang rocker covers fitted and I had to remove the breather baffle so am pretty sure there is enough clearance to the rockers, when the motor is reving low it sounds sweet it is only when it hits about 4000rpm that it starts sounding tappety, not having had anything to do with springs in the past, what replacement springs should I be looking for thanks

Is it a valve train noise or is it pinging?
Windsors are known to ping in the top end when your up it.
