I noticed it failed on me twice. The first time I sent it back to Rocket, through the retailer I purchased it from, to be repaired under warranty. After 4 weeks I had to chase it up and they told me they'd fixed it, but it wasn't covered under warranty because it must've been fitted incorrectly. It was running fine for 8 months! So, to fix 1 burnt track, it cost me $160!!! It failed again after about another 5 months, so I pulled it out and put a Crane in instead.
MSD and Rocket can suck on my balls...

This is interesting. I've told lotsa people not get msd and they all ignored me. They have ALL had failures like this.
I've had a Crane Hi-6 since '93. It's been on four cars and still goes strong. |

I wouldnt touch it after my MSD coil incident.
Coil was 4 months old and dropped it guts in Victoria when on a road trip. Had heaps of spark and tested fine until you added the compession to it to blow the spark out. Only found it was the coil after getting a rental car to drive home , driving back to Melbourne the next night with a car trailer and towing the car back. Chucked an old second hand coil on I had laying in the garden in a fit of desperation and it started first hit.......................

the MSD that i have isnt a 6al its i think 3al or something it stops multi sparking at 3000rpm so its only good for take of and cruising around for economy
i wasnt sure if i was goin to put it on coz i dont know if it would be worth the effort if people arnt noticing much with stockish 5ls

They all stop MS at around 3500rpm because you can't MS at higher rpm because there's not enough time to fire that many sparks in the time window available. So they switch to a big fat capacitor discharge single spark at that point. The advantage is there for the whole rev range. The reason you get better fuel economy is that you have a much more complete burn so you get greater torque.

Doesn't matter. They all stop multisparking after about 3-3.5k because of the reasons I stated.

just read something interesting on the back of the box of the msd 6al
it says can be use for 4 cyl 6cly and 8cly with a distributor so can you use these with the au2 v8s with coil pack?

Unfortunately Crane don't do direct ignition stuff. You'd have to use one of their ignitions for every output....too expensive.
