What ecu are you using???
I think the MSD uses magnetic pick up and can play havoc with ecu signals?? Whats wrong with hall effect system as used in std dissy???? 347's have LONG rods ! These days anyway.. they are generally 5.4" while std rods are much shorter. The pin will be in oil control ring but that isn't an issue these days as they generally have tool steel inserts to support ring...There has been alot of engineering put into these kits and oil issues is NOT an issue !! Unless poor quility parts are used or bad clearance on assembly...Some machining is required on lower cylinder bore for clearance of rod bolts.... You have big cam and short inlet runners... It will be interesting where power comes on??? I assume its going to have quite high compression?? 10.5 or so ?? You'll make 350 easy...

The problem with 347s is that they use very short rods and short skirt pistons with a short deck height. Also still shorter stroke than 351. But Lighter! 302 same bore size as 289, essentially same block. 289,302,351,400 all same bore size... The 289 and 302 isn't the same block. You can't stroke a 289 to 347 the barrels don't extend down into the crank case like they do in a 302.

I asked this question over on www.corral.net and heaps of guys said they have 289 blocks stroked to 347.. In this case the pin height could be even higher ??? May have used custom pistons which is way cheaper there....

OK - HUGE Update!!!!
I've been looking at what block to use for the stroker motor I was going to use older mexican block but not knowing legality issues about this with Qld Transport i decided against it as there law states you can not transplant a motor that is older than that of the car and since engine numbers will say it's older than the car.......... So after talking with engine builder i have decided to bite the bullet and fork out the kudos for a brand new aftermarket block This is where the fun starts as everything that was semi planned for this combo is now out the window as i have decided to run all forged internals to get maximum strength and HP potential as this block can withstand any amounts of HP i decide to throw at it The block we are using has a bore of 4.119...YES YOU READ RIGHT...which needs to be slightly bored and honed to use a set of 4.125 forged slugs This combined with stroker kit will take motor out to 371 cu inches The heads WERE all finished but now are pulled apart again to do some serious port work etc to get maximum flow out of them This new combo is getting built in 2 phases - N/A and F/I This phase is the N/A phase obviously then next phase consists of set of 200cc runner AFR heads with a CAPA kit installed Hopefully new block will be here in couple weeks if in stock here at Aus supplier so will have pics posted up then

Trying to define which distributor to buy MSD lists 2 dizzys for the EFI 5.0, 86-93 and 94-95 '94-'95 5.0's have a remote TFI so you need the '86-'93 type if you want to just plug in. Now depending on which aftermarket block you have you may need a 351 TFI-IV distributor. Pete. |

Block is a DART SPORTSMAN
4 bolt main, 4.125 bore, 8.2 deck height Will hopefully be here end next week Having a go is the easiest bit it's trying not to think of the $$$ getting invested Think of the car i could go out and buy for same dollars but end of the day this will be unique and different

I am keen to know what a decent block is worth. What sort of power will the sportsman support?

Dart blocks can be had for around 3500-5000, depending on where you get them from.

yes dart blocks are a nice piece of gear
they can handle way over 1000hp so this block will handle anything that i throw at it as i'm not expecting to go anywhere near these limits as for pricing, i get a lil bit of a discount on my stuff so not going to give run down on exact prices but what i will say is i've spent over 7k already and am expecting around the 15k mark all finished and running
