Yes but what type of AUIII was it? Was it an XR8? The standard headers on a regular falcon are rubbish. I just can't see how I'd get a sound improvement over the standard XR8 headers - they run 4 pipes each all the way to the cats. Muffler Man agrees. From a 'sound only' perspective I'd be better off spending my money on a cat back twin system.
Funny how I went into Muffler Man and asked them to remove the resonator, and I drove out with a new stainless muffler and the resonator still in place, having spent twice as much and my ute sounds exactly the same... I let myself get talked into that tho... Idiot. I''ve booked it back in to get rid of the pesky resonator so hopefully that gives it the burble I'm after... |

[quote]Easy solution, cut the tailpipe off and dump the exhaust from the rear of the twin mufflers (as you mentioned it had a twin system merging into a single 3inch.This would sound heaps better and go better too. Also keep the tailpipe sitting there to keep the boys in blue happy.lol
Well that would be cheap... What happens to the fumes tho? Won't I be dying a slow death of Carbon Monoxide poisoning? I take it side exits are highly illegal? |

what are peoples thoughts on a set of extractors with straight 2.5 inch pipes with one muffler each side. dump the exhaust before the diff with 45 degree dumpers?
will this sound good? would you be better off with 2.25 or 2.5 inch pipe for a better note? was thinking this combo with no resinators or balance pipe and one hooker aerochamber each side?> might be something others are interested in too. thoughts?> |

I reckon that would sound pretty sweet, with less drone than a bigger pipe. Depends on the diameter at the end of the headers tho, mine are 2.25 so no point going to 2.5 as the expansion slows the gas flow. Twins all the way are definitely the best for sound. Mine goes from twin 2.25's to a single 3 inch with one muffler and no resonator. It ain't quiet and it ain't classy, but there's no doubt about the number of cylinders now... Drones at 2000rpm too - bang on 100 km/h...
If you've got an XR8 with decent factory headers, you might consider spending your cash on a set of high flow cats, ($400 each) if you get the ones you can literally see though, you'll pick up more gains in sound and flow than replacing headers that are already OK. |

XR8 heads are no different to base model heads..
Yes don't go too big on exhaust size unless some serious engine mods are done..
