Hey guys
Today for some odd reason I went to reverse out the driveway and as I slowly accelerated, the car didn't move after about a second it moved, but felt like it jumped back. Once I got it out the driveway and put it into drive I went to take off, same problem engine started to rev then thud jumped forwarded and drove, it is doing this every time u stop and have to take off again, it is as there is a delay from the motor to gearbox or gearbox to diff. It doesn't make any noise just is delayed then kinda harshly takes off. What could the problem be? Any help would be appreciated. |

Seems to be fine, I am hoping a service will fix the problem
It still shifts smooth through gears, just when taking off. |

low trans fluid or blocked filter, or a solenoid problem, or could have a dead trans but that's unlikely, I'd be doing a tranny service and seeing what happens.

Thanks for the advice, I will book it in for a service asap.
Only killer is the car does 216km a day, so I hope it will hold out. |

Does it kick down into first when you are slowing to a stop, I had the same symptoms in my box, reverse was sloppy and felt slack like it was slipping, turns out these boxes use the same band for reverse and first. Mine was abox rebuild. But they can diagnose that when it's in for a service.

I haven't noticed it kicking back to first when slowing down, just delayed, motor revs then all of a sudden graps gear, happens in 1st and reverse.
I am hoping it isn't a band or anything major. |

I am hoping it isn't a band or anything major. Wont be a band, will most likely be a solenoid (and most likely S5) a failed band wont do that, and apart from that, bands can be adjusted, if the band is broken, the whole gearbox has to some apart. a Solenoid isnt real major eithier unless it is the S7 solenoid which is located in the pump housing and the whole gearbox needs to be removed and dismantled to acsess it. Checked the oil again earlier, level is fine but the oil is almost black, it is very dirty.
I got 2 quotes on services. 1 cost $160, just for the basic service and another was $300, the one for $300 included a complete flush and refill with full synthetic oil. Due to the colour of the oil, I hope the service fixes it up. |

Just be aware. I changed to synthetic in my ED 5.0 and soon after snapped a band and so lost 2nd and 4th. Since discussing this with a few trans people they said they were not a fan of synthetics in these transmissions. I switched to manual rather than rebuilding the auto.
I also have the ION version of this trans in my BA Pursuit which I also switched to synthetic oil(Actually I did this before the ED) and it's been fine, in fact it shifts better than it did and has another 20k on it since the switch. |
