Whats the best way of going about getting a EL XR8 (series 1 Manual) to get up and boogie, with a budget of $15,000 to spend on motor no preference of forced induction, Naturally asperated, or engine transplant (possibly crate engine). Any thoughts people. Also if people have a rough idea of possible hps of each option & approx cost.

Well you could have a good look through the forums... Supercharging you could see around 230-300 rwkw

With a stroker, cam, head, maybe manifold upgrade you could see between 200 - 260rwkw.

Both options (done properly) will cost you around the same, with the stroker being more reliable motorwise. You might have to look at strengthening or upgrading your gearbox though.

Actually you could get a healthy turbo setup for that. Some of the snort kits are pretty cheap!

for 15K yeh id look at a twin turbo setup....how good are with a welder :P if you could do alot of the installation work you could get a really good setup for 15K.

Crate motors depending on what you go for can get pretty hefty.

I got quoted 15K for a 514cube ford racing 351 windsor from rocket industries delivered....

If you want to do some custom fabrication then yeah turbo would be a good way, but I would go single over double. Superchargers are another excellent option and IMO offer some advantages over turbo (although turbos also have some obvious advantages too). $15k should see a nice setup either way, and for that money I would go forced over a N/A stroker anyday. Just make sure you use good quality parts and have an excellent tune, that way it will be almost as reliable as stock with excellent drivability and power.

Forget about all the mumbo jumbo.
Build a real muscle car engine.

For that money you could build a Bullet Proof Naturally Aspirated Donk worked of its tits.

Definately a steel crank 331 stroker with H-beam rods and forged pistons.
A camzilla, AFR heads, & edelbrock or trickflow intake manifold.
And of course a ECU mod.

Thats my thoughts anyway.

I saw around here somewhere a guy has put a 351 windsor in his ED. Why dont you stroke a 351 to say 408 (pretty sure not alot required there in the machining department, just crank rods and Pistons) whack a decent sized cam in it, some alloys and some after market injection and management. That should waste about 15k and leave the little EL shell looking like a techscrew. :-)

definately Jakes, he is the best by a long way in Canberra, might charge alittle extra but he knows his stuff and does it right the first time.
