Hey fellas
I have a 93 NC Fairlane that keeps shorting out. We had a coolant spill onto the alternator which we replaced and it also has a brand new battery in her. When she starts up she is all good then as soon as we take her out around the block the battery light comes on and am beeping noise starts. she starts to shudder and is storting out. We have checked the earth wires in the engine bay and cleaned them up but she is still chucking a hissy fit. We are now at a loss we have no idea what is going on anymore. Any ideas?????? |

Howdy,
First observations I'd make; Coolant spilling on Alternator doesn't normally cause it to fail. What happens if you start it and let it idle for awhile? What battery volts do you get while it's idling? What is the measured resistance from battery negative to engine block? |

make sure battery is fully charged and connected correctly (negative earth) -
check main positive cable from battery to alternator is not shorting out and main fuse link has good connections-check warning light wire is not shorting disconnect alternator cables and tape main positive so it can't short drive and recheck -if now ok replace alternator- if still faulty look elsewhere for fault ...... ie. ignition switch-fuse connections -shorted ignition wiring(check under rocker cover) - ECU - etc. |
