Just embarking on a new project - A 331 based on V8 Supercar components - around 600fwhp NA that is streetable.
The build will be based on either Ford R302 Block or Dart Sportsman - just waiting to see if a R302 can be "obtained". I have "obtained" the following components: The heads are 280cc intake runner Yates with Titanium Valves & Retainers ( current supercar heads as at August 2007), RR's & mounting block, intake plates, 8 TB setup, Con Rods & pistons, lightened Harrop crank with Honda size journals, Timing belt setup plus other bits & pieces. Will scrap the valves in favor of stainless as titanium is not the best for street. Will be dry sumped, individual ignition coils. The ECU is a Motec M800. Now the problem is that this thing will rev to 7500rpm but I want to run a hydraulic roller cam to make it streetable. I cannot see myself changing a solid roller cam every 10,000km. The issue then is which hydraulic roller lifters. Most would become unstable by 6500rpm. Any ideas? Richie.

Richie Richie Richie.... How do you plan to make a 280cc intake runner 'streetable'...?
It will be a very interesting combo and no doubt make a great amount of power, but I've got my reservations as to whether it will be nice at low rpms.

It will be a very interesting combo and no doubt make a great amount of power, but I've got my reservations as to whether it will be nice at low rpms. haha...i doubt it would be close to nice at low rpms even if its streetable...I'm guessing it's not a daily though so this isn't a priority. tough combo though, as for the cam i think you are correct in that you will have trouble with hydraulic lifters getting over 6500rpm, however its possible depending on the ramp rate/shape of lobes on your cam to get over 7000 without issues. Regardless if you intend to take it over 6500 often your probably better to go with a solid cam.

I am told idle will be around 1100 - 1200 rpm. Rich.

Im looking into building a 363ci dart block windsor and also want to run a hydrolic roller but ive also been told that may not be able to rev it past 6200-6500rpm if your lucky as some hydrolic roller cams only take 5800-6000rpm. I want to get max hp out of my engine but still be streetable and use a hydrolic roller cam.

They used this set up in Nascar for qualitying engines.. Whats the pro's of going for this sort of rotating assembly? shorter rods and high quality components mean it can be pushed harder, particularly in respect to revs....important considering its a stroked engine that is being made to rev street 8's aren't generally made to rev to the s**t, therefore its not too common on street engines (consider price v useable power band on the street)

Spoke to my machinist/builder - he has done work with the Spintron. A number of Supercars teams have this machine. Yes, getting rid of the flex in the push rods goes a long way to fix the lifter problem. He said some have used push rods up to 1/2" dia. We just need to work max size we can run & if it will fix the problem - then decide on HR vs Solid. I suppose another way is to run a solid & adjust RR every oil change at 5000km. Interesting point is that because rotating assembley is so light you can quickly lose momentum when clutch engages - so you stall unless you keep revs up. This is an issue with the supecars. Given there is plenty of HP in this thing I will bolt an auto box. At least a spinning convertor full of oil will help. Richie.
