Looking at a new cam for the FBT, and from what I've read the 2031 seems to be the way to go. I've got a motor builder here in Albury who can do the work for me. Questions are is this a good cam choice? (I want a really lumpy idle) Will I need anything else (valve springs?) and will the FBT ECU be ok with it?
The bloke who I will get to put it in only supplys Crow cams so was no help with prices, but who i a supplier of Crane and what am I looking at for a 2031? Thanks punters

Used this cam before and very happy however if I went around again I'd choose the 2030... a tad more aggressive but still well withing the ECU's capacity. Do you have roller rockers in the FBT and if so what size. If you already have 1.6 ration then the 2030 is suited however if 1.7 then the 2031 is your match. There heaps of other cams arouns that are worth looking at too and most will have different opinions about what is the best.
A quick google showed a little over $400 for the 2031 ({DESCRIPTION}). |

It does have roller rockers and I think they are the 1.7 but someone else may be able to confirm. Looks like the 2031 might be a good choice, how was your idle?
And do you know about the valve springs?

Very cranky initially but that settles down nicely, you'll need to bump your idle speed up just a tad. Crow springs are good - I used 7738 springs (single with damper) and 11700 retainers with these cams, never had a prob. More info here {DESCRIPTION}

just s/c the fbt. they are made for it!
If i was keeping mine Id love to.. just imagine it FBT had GT spec cam, not too agressive, but has a great "stock lumpy" idle. I too looked into the 2030, looked the way to go.

Double valve springs will definately be the way to go with a higher lift cam...
Not sure what roller rockers are standard in the FBT so whatever ratio they are then go for that one. The 2030 is a little more agressive as previously stated and will have a slightly lumpier idle The TFS1 is also a top cam mick as you know, very similar to the 2030, so if standard FBT ratio rockers are 1.6's, then consider this aswell.... |

FBT's should have the 1.7 rockers, same as Sprint/GT's.

I like the Crane 2030, seems to work really well with the stock GT40P's, Explorer intake, and stock compression ratio. Do it

I guess it depends on what ratio the rockers are then, basically my aim is to have a threatening idle, lol

im not knocking the crane product; i know everyone has had success with it but have a look at comp cams range for the 5.0l really quick ramp up if you make the comparisons from valve open(degrees) to 50 thou duration
crane 2031 comp xe264 inlet276 deg inlet 264 ex 282 ex 270 @ 50 thou @50 thou in 214 in 212 ex 220 ex 218 the crane has 12 deg more adv dur yet at 50 thou only has 2 deg more so lifts valves 10 deg quicker = quicker accelleration the xe 270 has 4 deg more at 50 thou and is still 6 deg smaller wort a look i reckon |

So do they have the 1.6 rockers then? Lol, supercharging would be awesome but think id rather spend my money on other stuff on the car, not that concerned with extreme performance, id just like to see her into the 14's. Thats why the only performance thing I'm doing is the cam and underdrive pullies.

I'd recommend the crane stuff, i'm very happy with my cam (2031) it has a nice lumpy idle (lumpy enough to let people know your car is definitely not standardand pulls strong from 3000-5500 rpm.although i didn't look at the other brands.

Want to get a sound file of your car idling mate? I have heard a Tricklow cam (offyaguts) and the idle was impressive to say the least
