But if the car detects greater air flow... shouldnt it adjust the fuel to match the air flow, thus more air and and fuel so uses more petrol??

Yes it will add fuel to compensate for any increased airflow but thats different from volumetric efficiency. If the engine has a greater efficiency at lower rpm then it will generally use less fuel. |

yeah that's a regular price for a K&N. And yeah it's a worthwhile investment.

you might wanna look at changing the MAF on it as well.. if you take the intake piping apart and look at the internals od the MAF you will see how restrictive it is.. I think from memory the MAF on either the EL GT or the TE50 SIII is much bigger though the guts.. that is the bottle neck with airflow on the intake side of things..
a good set of extractors will help to no end. I'll try and find you a pick of the internals of the runners and show you the difference between the standard and the EL GT runners..

As for the panel filter, you just get the EB-AU panel filter. K&N, BMC or Finerfilter all do decent filters. K&N's cost around $120, Finerfilters $80 and not too sure on the BMC costing but I believe they are fairly expensive. The throat on it looks bigger than the standard one on my XR8. {DESCRIPTION} |

hey boys
i bought a BLITZ SUSPOWER LM pod filter yesterday from autobarns 20% off sale, from 170 to 140 bargin! I just have some issues with the adapter which i have to drill new holes to fit onto the factory system.. no dramz though! Anyideas on how i should box them? And wats the legal ways about this? |

It has to be covered by a shield/shroud, etc for it to be legal..
So i'm told. You're best bet is to see if you can grab a BA XR8/GT Pod Filter cover and run a cold air feed into that. They're not cheap though, about the $100 mark, or just under. |

wouldnt it be cheaper to just go to safeway, ask for a box cardboard box (every1 used to ask me when i worked there lmao), cut it to size so it fits perfectly with the bonnent and surronds the pod nicely, cut some holes for custom piping.
Then once it works effecticly for 2 weeks, take that cardbored cutout and go to a metal cutter and get him to cut a metal box for me (about 0.5 or 1cm thick) EXACTLY like the cardbored prototype? |

It is a lot of work and cost for no benefit over a K&N pod filter with the tickford snorkly, plus I doubt it would look like a factory install.

hey boys
i got a blitz suspower lm pod!! Feel more torque at lower-mid rev range and definatly a more v8 sound all the way till redline. As for the power, its been relativly hot these last 2 days n i dont have much/any cold air goin to the pod but i can feel a lil more power. I need to get it boxed... i was thinking high temp plastic, a large tin car looking custom heat shield with the opening spliting into 2 pipes which will be located from the front bumper or buy those cheap lil heat shields from autobarn... any ideas? here are some pics with pod installed eMz |

Sorry but from the pics I can't see any way that will flow anywhere near the flow of a panel filter. Just look at the actual surface area of the pod. Currently without shielding the EEC will be pulling an additional 8 degrees or so of timing, plus add the decreased performance of the hot air charge and decresed filter surface area and I wouldn't be suprised if you were loosing a good 10kw. Even when you get the shielding done I highly doubt it will perform as good as the stock setup. If you want to stick with a pod setup, do yourself a favour and go get a decent sized K&N or similar, not the filters that autobarn/supercheap sell which are designed primarily for the 4cyl guys.
