i had to drill holes in the adapter so i cant give it back...
i dunno ill test it out, see how it goes. if not, ill sell it and get the knN pannel with tickford snorkle.. i know the TSA is small, but its proven that the blitz has the highest air flow so i very much dought after i box it/feed air i will loose any power at all.... i am goin to extend the pipe so it fits closer to the snorkle.. any ideas where i can get the extender? ps data mine, im selling the alarm.. dont wanna do a shift n void my insurance. |

Well that just shows how much the guys at autobarn know. Even with excellent filter material flow, the actual surface area is the major factor in total flow. Without the dimensions it is hard to say but I think it is safe to say that the surface area of that pod is considerably less than that of the standard panel size. As for blitz having the best flow, the tests I have seen show that the finer filter foam element has the best flow, and that is particularly why the V8 supercars run them (but there would be dozens of tests out there all with different results). As I said in a pervious post, it's just a lot of work for no real gains, but if you are happy giving it a go then thats good. |

OR Factory box, k&n pannel filter with xr8 III snorkle? Personally I would use the factory box, a decent panel filter and the XR8 snorkle. Thats all you need until you are pushing some big power figures. |

Option B
will be easier, less problems with the law if it comes to that, and will be fine until you go twin turbo, or monster supercharger. edit: EDXR8 just beat me, but great minds think alike.

Correction. He probably don't know anything
I always make sure that when I go to my local Autobarn I speak to the two older guys that work in there. One is the store owner. One young guy in there, who owns a fairly nice, fairly stock ED XR6, was trying to convince me he goes through engine mounts nonstop in it. I was sceptical to say the least...

lol yeah i guess ill think twice b4 buying sumfin from there
i got some info from my regular forum here: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/inde ... pic=118238 another guy said this: Quote: I have just completed making a custom air intake/heat shield. My material of choice is Lexan. It is a polycarbonate sheeting. This product was featured in "Mythbusters". I believe it is bullet proof if its more than say 8mm thick. I used the thinnest I could find which was around 2mm.
The benifits of using Lexan are, 1 Its easy to work. 2 You can cut it with scissors. 3 It's flexible but it can be perminantly bent easily. 4 Its easy on drills, files, saws etc. 5 It's natually clear though you can rough it up and paint it any colour you like. 6 I belive it would be thermally neutral. I doubt it would store/transfer heat like sheet metal. 7 It wont crack, rust or corrode. I'm not sure where you would by it. ( I've never bought it in my life). I think I saw a sheet in Bunnings one day though, try there. that u think?? could work well with the pod + custom box... infact, with proper cold air direction, i guess it would be better than the factory + k&n.. what u guys think? |

what u guys think? Yes a decent sized pod in a custom box with proper cold air will flow better however it comes down to the fact that the engine just doesn't require it. The stock AU XR8 setup has been proven to flow more than enough air without restriction for around 180rwkw. As I said, its just a lot of effort for no real increase in performance. |

well put it this way...
if i can sell the pod to my mate i will.. if not, im nearly finished yr12, and would be more than happy to spend days/weeks/months on making a custom intake after the exams |

I've got a large K&N Conical filter w/adapter that I am looking to sell, but to be honest, you'll probably be making better power by going back to the stock airbox...
Anyway, I'll post in the For Sale section shortly (just need to get my post count up first ) |
