i have been reading for a bit and seen some positive stuff but not what i want to know exactly....

i have just purchased my self a nice 5.0L auto Concorde and i have fallen in love with the engine

i want to put the engine in my 6cyl 5spd xg ute. from what i have read up, it can be done but im more stuck at the financial part. so whilst spending as little as possible, how can i get by this? here is my list of questions.......

1. what edits need to be made to fit the 6cyl manual bell housing to the 5.0L engine?
2. is it possible to redrill a v8 auto bell housing to mount a manual box?
Aside from the obvious gearbox issues, say i get the proper input shaft, sleeve, bell housing ect....
3. how do i go about wiring the engine up to the xg loom? or to the car at least so i still have everything in the car working and the engine.

thanks in advance

First thing you need to check is if you can get it registered. You may not be able to get it Blue Slipped.

XG never came with a V8, it is not ADR approved. It was not untill the series II XH that they were fitted with the V8.

1. what edits need to be made to fit the 6cyl manual bell housing to the 5.0L engine?
A) Doubt that it can be done

2. is it possible to redrill a v8 auto bell housing to mount a manual box?
A) Can't be done as there is no positioning for the Clutch fork etc.

3. how do i go about wiring the engine up to the xg loom? or to the car at least so i still have everything in the car working and the engine.
A) Look at using the NF wiring as you will need the V8 ECU, the BCM etc.

A- my understanding .. won't go .. need the V8 item.

2. is it possible to redrill a v8 auto bell housing to mount a manual box?

A- don't know 100% but doubt it

A- will need to have the engine ecu as a stand alone unit. someone else can answer this betterer than i can.

thanks in advance

cheers

thanks guys. i might end up stripping the loom down for the moment and eliminating stuff that isnt needed until i have the loom down to the basics and then work it from there. not worries about rego or engineer certs. i can be done and i have seen it done on other forums including the rego and certs but not enough detail was shown on how to fit engine and sort loom. i should be able to work something out though. and i didnt even think about the clutch fork in auto bell housing hahahah. would have been awkward if i cut and got housing mounted to box, in car and relized there wasn't a fork hahahaha

Depending on where you are - its not a difficult conversion. The XG didnt come with an 8, but the biggest hurdle is in fact emissions which your later model engine covers.

Your not going to adapt the XG bellhousing to the 8. Your best answer is to find an AU V8 gearbox, or E Series V8 Gearbox and bellhousing for about $1k on gumtree. Its worth it. The V8 box's are different lengths in the input shaft. There are a few bellhousings to make it work (Dellow etc) but the quality isnt always better, and the housing costs a few hundred already.

ECU Standalone is easy - thats a J3 chip from TIPerformance - can be supplied with Smartlock already disabled for you. They can also put the Manual Tune on there for you so that you wont need to do any "Tricks" to pretend theres an Auto there, and that its in D or anything.

Wiring wise - Nothing too hard. Ive put an E Series 5.0 into an XF, and an AU Series 5.0 into an E36 BMW. Its just a matter of taking your time to get the wiring right. The Windsor will fit into the bay correctly without you needing to modify the firewall, and depending on how dedicated you are you can make the entire Fairlane AC System forward of the firewall just fit in. Alternatively you can use the XG AC System, and just use the pressure line from the compressor and have it modified to suit the XG Condensor.

Its more about take your time, and get it right. its a good fun project, and the 5.0 really transforms the X-Series.

Oh yeah - Headers are a PITA. noone makes any definete claims, but lots of people talk about one particular set of pacemakers fitting. When I did mine, many people used a mix of headers to work.

CRS actually do make a set of headers to fit. It was press-bent, I think its now Mandrel. I had mine HPC Coated, but they were fantastic. Reasonably easy to fit (I had to grind a few MM off the back of the housing on the gearbox, but made the job of getting it all in work.

Cheers
