Aftemarket extractors or the EL GT ones will clear. Not sure if all aftermarket ones do, best to confirm first.
AU items will hit the steering shaft unfortunately. Thats what I've always been told anyway. All AU 5.0s had the GT40P heads. Series 1/2/3 wont make a difference in that respect. |

Pacemaker PH4000's will fit
Hurricane headers make headers to suit e series with gt40p and the s2 el xr8/gt headers fit you just need to make sure your spark plug boots have 90 degree ends to clear the headers |

Thanks for the reply guys i've organised a set of hurricane headers for early next week. With the heads i took off the motor they are identicle to the gt40p heads in respect to intake ports exhuast ports and valve sizes are these heads anything special or are all e series v8 heads like this ?

Hurricane headers are rubbish quality and that's reflected in the price.
GT40P heads may look similar to E7TE's but they flow 30% more air. The intake ports are wider and much nicer, intake valves are larger, exhaust ports don't have air injection humps, the bowl transition & short side radius is far better. The GT40P heads are an excellent budget upgrade. Make sure you fit the matching AU 5.0 intake & TB

I check everything with my vernier calipers every theng down to port spaceing springs valves everything on these heads is identicle the only difference is spark plug angle and the old heads have T cast into it and the new ones have gt40p plus another Couple of numbers. Didn't want to have any problems when i put the new heads on but i never thought about checking the plug angle!!!

Let us know what gains you get by installing the GT40P heads on your fairlane.
I have an EL XR8 185kw which has a factory explorer manifold. Can I put GT40P heads and AU roller rockers (1.6 or 1.7) on without any mods or clearance issues? What would be the gains with the standard cam? |

Fitting stock GT40P's on a standard e-series 5.0 will net about an extra 20% TQ/HP = 45-50HP so long as there are no flow restrictions on the intake side - like the standard 55mm air flow meter. If the stock MAF is fitted, figure about 10 HP less

Have you done the swap yet? What were the results?

If the stock MAF is fitted, figure about 10 HP less You might get 15-20hp at the most, no chance of 45-50hp. Aftermarket alloys would get that, and gtp's aren't that much better than e7's. The AU XR8 made the same power as ELII XR8 but had gtp's. |

I was under the impression that with all the AU XR great with 1.7 RR and a HO cam that around the 300HP mark at the engine was achievable, with a tune of course. Seemed reasonable since the HO cam is bigger than the AU XR8 and they make that standard??

I found this post whilst googling about headers for 40P's in e series as I have recently put GT40P's on my NF Fairlane as well and mine fit fine except #5 plug which hits the pipe, and I have to remove extractors to change plugs.
But it has made a very nice difference I put explorer, GT40P's and 1.7 rollers on with std HO cam even with my restrictive lpg installed in intake its a great little upgrade - can't wait until I get my injected lpg set up installed.
