timing chains can strech over time even the real good ones and put timing error into the cam, putting undue stress on the motor with out you knowing about it. timing gears are more direct and wear out before timing error comes in. And a strait cut timing gear like that are stronger.

yeah but straight cut gears are louder.. they have a constant whine that gets loud at high revs..
guess it depends what you're looking for.. and with a 347 s/c.. i dont think a little extra whine is gonna make any difference lol

I was looking around for a chain but then found the PJ gears on special going cheaper than a good chain, so I thought why not...
But PJ's come in Noisy and Quiet versions, I got the Quiet ones so shouldn't be too noisy.

I'm still at it just slowed down a little while I sus out a gas system, plus I gotta get myself another car to get around in for a few months so I can pull the lane apart :twisted: .

At least it looks like I got a car this week from my defacto brother in law who's an LMCT. After I'm finished with it I'll become mum's new car so it's not costing me anything. :D The only bummer is it's an 01 Mitsubishi Lancer on dual fuel :roll: At least It'll be cheap to run.

Here's a little bit of what I'm up to at the moment:

f@rt about with mounting all the little bits like this, still scratching my head a little as to how to run the coolant piping which is why I want to get the car off the road so I can empty out the engine bay and start rerouting stuff. :lol:

Also gotta see about stuffing this big lump of Aluminium under there somewhere... :shock:

Is that radiator bigger than average?? Kinda looks like it might be from the camera angle.

lol @ stuffing that radiator somewhere. Hmmmm are you going to have an intercooler also? You need a bigger engine bay..

The camera makes the radiator look rather large but it's the same width as the stock one and about an inch or two taller, best of all it's twice as thick as the stockie.

As for an intercooler, I have thought about it and it would have to be an air to water type mounted in the inlet manifold. I could build it into the mounting plate I made and not need to raise it anymore, but I'm sure even on low boost I'll start to run into traction problems :lol: so it doesn't need to run at optimum efficiency.

Wouldn't some wider and softer compound tyres on the back assist with the traction?

Yeah been looking at a new set of ROH Adrenalize with 18x9 on the back, but if I get it to stick too much then all the other driveline bits will start to complain. :roll:
Anyway the right foot makes a great traction control device. :lol:

have you checked the clearance issuses with the electric water pump as i had trouble running belt for power steer and a/c on my bulid with electric pump and the thermo fans hit the water pump on my bulid so i put standard water pump back on....and with your thicker radiator ??? :?

just joined this ford mods forum , reading through nf ghia posts i would like to say that mate your doing a bl##dy great job.
the amount of fab going into this deserves an award.
would luv to see this in the flesh (steel) once its all finished.

when you have made your al radiator bottle show us some pics , might get you to make one for me :)

keep up with the updates plzzzzzzzzz.
