ok ,so the reason that you don't give yourself abit'o'room under the blower for the injectors by raising the planum a little ,would this be that it won't fit under the bonnet ?if this is a problem have you considered some of the new shakers that are going on under ba/bf models .we are currently looking into one for our bf fpv ,i'm led to believe the cost is around the $1500,oo....doc

So I guess it's time for a few more progress pics
Now as any of you out there who have fabricated their own gear will know, most of your time is spent Measuring, Jigging up, Measuring, Aligning parts, MEASURING!!, and then you finally get to start cutting or turning the parts. Plus it's been 15 odd years since I last used a lathe and mill so I've been playing around making up a few other items so as to get back up to speed on their usage (but I guess it's a bit like riding a bike) so here's where I am at the moment.. As you see here, the stroker crank don't fit the stock block without a bit of grinding on the piston skirts to allow the bigend bolts clearance. Keeping with modding the block I also had to grind a bit away from the front of the block (and back of the timing cover) to fit the Pete Jackson timing gears. The left idler gear is slightly bigger than the right one which meant that the right gears pin was hitting on the block which is where I ground it down. And on the back of the timing cover I had to get rid of the oil catch thingamejig Another little bit I had to machine up was a 35-1 timing wheel for the back of the balancer, as can be seen here. Now I've been scratching my head a bit as to how exactly to make the inlet manifold for the charger. The first thing was to make a base for the s/c to bolt on to. I got a bit carried away and made up my own bolts as well And I'm currently making the valley cover, just making sure here that the bolt hole I drilled were in the right position. I think I got it pretty close. So thats about where I'm at !!! I also had a good chat with Terry down at Smithy's about gas systems and I was going to go with a GRA setup, but Terry is fitting an injection system (or in his case, testing 3 seperate injection systems) on his 34' clevo powered roadster. So I'll be interested to find out how he goes. The best thing about these injection systems is they only need a 6mm hole into the inlet manifold that connects to a solenoid body that can be mounted anywhere. As you can see here with the s/c sitting on top of the motor, there's sweet FA room for injectors to fit along the sides without raising the s/c too far. And with that big hunk of force fed goodness sitting right in the middle of the engine bay I think I'm going to have to strip the paint off and give it a nice polish. Also after looking over the sump that came with the motor, and seeing the prices they want for alloy sumps, it looks like I'm gonna make a new one of those as well So thats kind of where I am at the moment. More updates to follow....

Pity about that iron block with all that alloy around it.
g/l with the rest of the manufacturing you've got to do.

You made your own bolts.. I have nothing but the utmost respect for your project

I'm loving this thread. Keep up with the good work.
More ambitious than I could do in my shed, but gives me the guts to go out and do a little more than the average.

So I guess it's time for a bit more of an update on where I'm up to..
Well the inlet manifold has been a bit of fun it looks a little on the industrial side of things at the moment (I tend to follow the Russian philosophy of "If works, Is good" But at the moment I'm just roughing out all the pieces to get dimensions right, and then it's the grinding, polishing and powdercoating to make it all look nice and shmick. So pretty well 90% finished there and after all that welding aluminium, I wimped out on the idea of an alloy sump I decided to just cut the bottom off the stock sump (which was all dented and sump plug threaded) and welded on a larger box section. I have a dipstick hole on the timing cover so I welded up the hole there as well as it looked like it was weeping from the cork gasket. Another little problem I came across was with the CVR water pump As you can see here the inlets come out at a nice angle that fouls with the balancer.. So the solution I came up with was to turn a pair of 20deg adapters so I could get enough clearance around the balancer. And in the hopes of holding the whole thing together a little more I've become (as Arnie would say) a girlie man and got a girdle for the bottom end. So some more block modifications were needed. As you can see the end caps had to be machined down to allow the girdle to sit flush (as per the instructions) with the stoker I also had to notch out the girdle to allow clearance for the big ends.. So there ya's go.... with any luck the block should be on it's way to the engine shop in the next couple of weeks, then I can finally find out what the comp ratio will be to see if I need to dish out the piston a little to get it around 8.5:1.

Hehehe I was thinking of making my own but I didn't have a big enough hunk of tool steel lying around. I got that one (it's a Trickflow) from Summit {DESCRIPTION}
