The dizzy gear in your photo wasn't stock for an injected HO engine. The whole dizzy may have originally been out of an injected F-series or Bronco with a flat tappet cam. They look the same at a first glance
I'm sure Mallory knows what cams are made of what material. They've been in the business for a year or two now, designing components that have to work reliably as advertised

The new one I got is for a Fairlane and looks exactly the same(gear included). Will add a couple of pictures shortly. Well I installed it(first distributor install for me) got it to line up as best I could with the marks on the old one, but she wouldn't fire up. I dont know what it is, could I have messed the alignment up that bad that it wont start? I tried rotating the body of the distributor either way to see if that would get it to fire but no luck there. |

Reinstalled the distributor with the timing set properly(silly me on the first attempt) and got it to fire up today! First time running in 6 months and she started and idled straight away. However I am noticing that the distributor is moving around alot(kind of wobbling) which I am pretty sure is not right.
I snapped a quick video of the movement that you can check out here. {DESCRIPTION} My assumption is that the teeth on the cam gear are also shagged and causing some nastyness down there. Might be time to bin it! |

Looks like it's got a bent shaft. Question is why? When you fitted the new gear did you get the installed height exactly right? You may have installed it too low on the shaft resulting in binding when the distributor hold down was tightened. Check the Ford racing catalog for the dizzy gear setting procedure.
Check your oil pump shaft too. |

It's a whole brand new dizzy, I will pull and inspect it again, I think it must be something lower down unfortunately.

Exactly how did you check the gear height?
Read this.... http://www.fordracingparts.com/download ... 2390-A.pdf You're better off with a 2nd hand Ford dizzy than a chinese one. |

Hmmm looks alot more involved than what I did when I swapped the new one in. I am not 100% sure it is a Chinese one, just suspect it might have been. |

So I pulled out my ebay special tonight for a bit of a looksy, after a bit more of a inspection it seems that there is very little difference between the two. The gear heights are as close to identical as I can tell, some basic measurements show as close as I can tell no difference in the installed gear heights.
What I decided to do was pull the gear off the new one and put it on the old one. I did this installed it and fired the car up and NO MOVEMENT of the dizzy! There you go there was something stuffed in the new one. Its just another $160 lesson about trying to cut corners by going with unknown products! Thanks to all those that gave me ideas along the way special shout out goes to XR9UTE. |

Cheers bloke, Glad you got it sorted.
Quite often those chinese s**t things have a 1 size fits all top section and they pin a bottom half to suit a variety of engines so, it's recipe for disaster. |

Yeah its amazing, I had a good look over it and it appeared to be exactly the same as the old one with no bad casting marks but it definitely was the issue. A sacrifice to the god of speed I guess. |
