Hey guys,

Where should I look for replacement of cooling system parts ie. top and 2 bottom radiator hoses?
I've had a look around at Gates & Mackay but its hard to tell if I'm going to be purchasing the correct hoses without diagrams. I'm replacing the thermostat to stop the engine getting so warm and thought I might as well replace the hoses... Looks like 1 top and 2 bottom hoses?

Cheers!! :)

If they aren't broken/leaking then keep them as they are. The top hose is very expensive and now a Ford only item now if I remember correctly. $80-$100 last time I bought it?

And yeh I can see your point about the top house... I did notice a joiner for another hose.. Not sure what it was for...

The thermostat and housing comes out on the side yeh? A bit different to my old EB 4.0l

If they are original id be replacing them, being ten years old they could spring a leak or split at any time.
Also as said the top hose is Ford only, so if you break down on a Weekend you'll be left stranded for a couple of days.

The 'Mackay' hose brand has a PDF on their website which details all the hoses you need for it. Easier to get the part numbers yourself and order them that way, its too easy for the counter monkey to stuff it up IMO.

Cool. I'll have a look! At the same time when I was looking at the hoses, I thought I'd have a squiz at the dizzy cap and button, and well, I think they're original... Surely not but the brand on them is Motorcraft!!!

Went to Ripco yesterday, and he tells me he can match the ford price with a gates hose for the top ($80)

Mackay dont do the Top one - only the lower.

So thats my next option for the top. if that doesnt work - has anyone seen the Thermo Switch adapters for top hose that you can get? - normally anodised alloy. Im thinking one of those, with a water fitting for the bleed line, and a couple of other off the shelf hoses (thinking EB 6 cyl, and something else) should get one out of trouble?

I just got this email back from my local Ford dealer...

Hi ,

Is the car a NL Fairlane or AU Farlane. ? I will give you prices for both
NL FAIRLANE …………….$104.14 INC GST
NU FAIRLANE…………. $38.52 INC GST.

WTF!? Why such a difference...? Wonder if the NU hose fits the NL?

If thats the top hose - yeah - its rare, and expensive.

The cost is the Moulded in outlet at the top. Mackay actually make the AU hose but its slightly different (outlet appears to be on the side)

Cool. Thanks Nigel.. Well here is the reply from the dealer...

The hoses are different in shape & size. Pricing is usally related to vendor and/ or
volume produced. ie. The later hose may be locally manufactured and high production where
as the earlier hose may be imported and/ or lower volume. The two ared definatley not interchangable.

You know, I would be tempted to try the AU Part - seeing as Mackay do it also. The difference appears to be that the bypass line is on the side rather than the top
