my missus has just crashed her v8 nl fairlane and i was thinking i could put it in the au for a bit of a change, i'm a mechanic so no stress with the physical swap and fit up of ancilleries and stuff just wondering if ill be able to use the standard v8 pcm and loom to run it and the gearbox or will i have to get a aftermarket ecu? or could i just use a au v8 loom and pcm?
any ideas anyone? |

No experience in doing it, but if your model is an AU1 as stated, with the correct looms and especially the AU1 V8 ECU, it should be ok. Au2 up are distributorless..

Should be fine if you use the correct AU V8 Looms and Computer. You should know however that the AU V8s all had the GT40P heads, Explorer Manifold, different cam and most had the 24Ib Injectors. So essentially you are creating an AU V8 with a lower-spec motor than they had from the factory. The other issue is that AU V8s had completely different acessories, sensors etc than the E-Series V8s. AU V8s had coilpacks, different PS pump, AC Pump, Alternator, Water Pump, Harmonic Balancer, sensors are in different spots etc. At the end of the day, you are probably better off using an AU V8 motor for it. Pull all the good bits from the NL, leave all the V8 specific bits including the motor, and sell it as a complete V8 conversion for an E-Series or earlier. |

Wouldnt the engine number show it is older then the car is self when he goes to get in registerd, unless u go dodgy then good luck lol

It doesn't matter. If you replaced an engine block...which is a part of the engine, not the whole engine, they wouldn't stop you from licensing it!
