Is there any difference in the TCM (Transmission ECU) between normal V8 models and the XR8?

I would think that the XR8 one has better shift points but i can't find any info to conferm that theory :?

Nope no difference. Normal V8 is the same as an XR8 anyway.
A GT however has adaptive shift strategies.

Unless you are talking the XHII XR8. They came with the same adaptive shift as the GT got. Does anyone know if this can be interchanged?

XR one would have to be different (due to different diff ratios) as the shift strategy is based on speed not rpm.

I've driven both and the XR one definately felt like a firmer shift.
