G'day,
i have a fully rebuilt 302 Windsor thats got about 350ks up now.
my question is, how many ks do i need up before i can drop the mineral oil & start to run synthetic oil?
Ive been told 1000ks but im not convinced that this is adequate information.

If you really want to run a syn oil...wait till about 5,000k's. Is it a late Windsor or early Windsor???
If an early Windsor, wouldn't run an oil any thinner than a 15W something.

Run dirty s**t old oil (clean s**t) that is made from oil until engine is well and truely run in. Synthetic oils dont have the lube protection of real oil. Use home brand and change every 500 to 1000 ks two or three times.

That'll work ok....just keep in mind changing the oil every 5,000km or 6 months, which ever occurs first.....plus look after the airfilter side of things too......the donk will last a long time.
Since using that oil, it wouldn't hurt to change it every 1,000km ( + oil filter too ), for the first 5,000km.......oil is cheap compared to engine rebuilds.
