Hi,
I have a 2002 BA Fairmont Ghia 5.4. Its been running rough, idling badly, surging and sometimes stalling. This problem gets better when the car is warm, but there is still a miss. So I pulled the throttle body off so I could replace the MAP sensor. When I looked inside the inlet manifold there was quite a bit of oil pooled in the bottom of the inlet manifold. Is this normal? The reason I ask is because when I pulled off the MAP sensor there was quite a bit of oil on the sensor. I dont want to replace the sensor if this going to happen again. Your help would be much appreciated. John |

Had the same thing happen to me.
Check your rocker breather valves. Thats what was causing mine. Can you feel a misfire at all? Cheers Sam

Hi Sam,
There is a bad miss under acceleration. It splutters a fair bit, but when it reaches about 3000 revs it seems to clear itself. What do I check for with the rocker breather valves? Thanks John |

Hey Mate,
Yeah its sort of normal if you have high k's. At 80,000 mine had a bit of a pool happening but i pulled the inlet off and cleaned it all out and same with the runners. If you got small enough hands soak it up with a rag. Giving the Thottlebody a good clean wouldnt hurt aswell. I had the same issues your having too, surging stalling etc etc. But it didnt miss fire. I replaced the MAP Sensor and it ran so much better, even had more power. I think it cost me about $130 from coventry's. But before you replace it check all the hoses for a vacuum leak. IE not connected up properly, or cracked hose. Vacuum guage would help you determine if there is a leak.

The BOSSes throw a fair bit of oil around at high revs, those who mod them often get catch cans to keep the oil out of the PCV and thus throttle body and intake manifold.
You can clean the manifold and MAP (no need for a new one). Get some catch cans to stop it happening.
