Looking for ways or suggestions on how to give my EF 5ltr an old school V8 note? What are you boys running? Is it possible to run a twin system or is there fuel tank issues or would it be beneficial, noise wise and power wise to run a twin side by side system? I recall reading it somewhere here before but cant find the post again.
Any help/tips greatly appreciated

Low cpsi cats, stainless pipework, as few mufflers as possible to keep that rattling v8 sound everybody LOVES.

Oh and check out "rainoffire" 's build thread to see what he has done. He has an xr6 but he has a twin system (one pipe each side).

How low is your car? On e-series it can be a bit of a tight fit to run twin system over the diff and any lazy exhaust joint will attempt to talk you into a single system, however it can be done. twin 2.25 system would suit a stock or mild Windsor.

Twin 2.25 should be fine even for a modified windsor. Thats still a large flow area.
2 x 2.25" exhaust = 350mm2 flow area 3" exhaust = 235mm2 flow area 3.5" exhaust = 275mm2 flow area

It is standard height but sagged in the a*** a bit like they do plus the motor is bog stock at the moment

yea twin exhaust would be awsome. do-able. but places will try talk you outta it coz they are lazy and dont like doin anythin difficult.
plus the old school v8s dont run cats and maybe 1 muffler. so a very high flowing cat ( depending on what your viwes are on it stick a straight thru pipe into a cat so thers basically no cat ). and one small muffler and maybe a hotdog.

Mod your stock cats with bigger pipes and then build a Twin 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"(preferably out of stainless) and use a couple of Lukey Ultraflow mufflers and no more.
I know how good this sounds on an XH XR8 not to mention the performance....you'd be very happy. |

On my stock 5lt EL Fairmont, I did the following:
- Twin 2 1/2" Mantra Pro System. Bolts on easily and fits nicely over the diff - Pacemaker tri-y headers - Venom 2 1/2" 100cpsi cats sounds awesome. nice rumble when idling, but out your foot down and it gets loud. The whole thing only set me back $2000 in parts. Installed headers and twin system myself (all bolt in parts) but had to take it down to the local exchaust place to get the cats welded in, which set me back $300. Call the guy at bestmufflers.com for a good price on supply and delivery of parts. |
