Hey v8 owners,
I've got the symptoms of a vac leak in the red Xr8 that I'm working on atm. When I fit the lower manifold to the engine I noticed the pcv grommet wasn't all that great. With a spray of carby cleaner the rev's pickup a bit when the pcv area is sprayed. Anyway, looking at it, it looks like I need to remove the upper manifold to get at the pcv & change the rubber. Anyone managed to do it without removing the upper? Cheers ToranaGuy

You don't need to remove the upper. They usually go hard and crack but if you pull the PCV out of the centre you can get the grommet out with a large screwdriver. If it breaks, no matter because the PCV filter below will stop the crap falling in the engine. Then just vacuum it out.

That's good to know that it can be done without removing the upper, so I'll give it a good crack. I've already got a new grommet, picked it up from work today.

Did the job this arvo with the help of a blade screwdriver, and from the passenger side of the car it was actually rather easy, much easier than I thought.

Gray, I'm having difficulty locating thus valve on the engine, I would atlest like to check it. Seems my engine is crammed with stuff and getting my hand around the back of the intake is pretty tough. Is it under the intake? Should I be able to see the valve? Anyone got a picture?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks heaps! made a big difference changing this, although....the new grommet was not at all snug (even with the valve squeezed in). So I wrapped teflon tape around the grommet to build it up to give an extra 2mm dia. And naturally tied the end of the teflon tape under itself. Then stuffed the valve in.
If you do this, get some new 3/8 rubber hose with the plastic braid, as mine was cracked and crumbling when I disturbed it. It was about 350mm long. Will also make the job of connecting it back to the intake manifold easier. Especially if you do it in situ and not readily keen to pull it all apart for a grand ol "im fixing my F**k ford again" sesh
