hi all, i filled up my AUII XR8 today at $1.35 a litre for mobil 8000 ... i was goin to ask you all is it good for my car if i ran mobil 95 octane rather than the 98 ... because im only 18 and money is hard to come buy when you have to pay 3g insurance ... would it affect my car in anyway?

thanks in advance

IMO there's no harm in running PULP instead of optimax/synergy/ultimate/etc, dont try running it on ordinary ULP tho....

that said, if she pings on PULP, go back to the expensive stuff

AFAIK all our cars are designed to run with normal ULP.

Not sure about AUII V8.. might be premium only. AFAIK the only cars which REQUIRE 98 octane fuel are WRXs etc.

IMO no harm in running 95RON - of course assuming it doesnt ping!!

The difference in the price between high octane and normal is only about $5 over a full tank. So i say dont take the chance.

Amazing how people don't consider these things BEFORE they buy a car. $3K insurance, $2K petrol and $600 rego every year.... bought the car back in 3 maybe 4 years. Ahh to be young!

I agree you may not get the bang for ya buck with ULP but it will still get you around town but if you want performance/economy go 95RON+

I run mine on std ULP and Ive got my spark advance at around 34deg @1500rpm. I got around the pinging by running a colder plug and running smaller gaps

That's kind of interesting Jaysen. So running colder plugs can negate pinging issues? Is this a surefire remedy for all pinging should people choose not to adjust their timing?

I've never run mine on ULP but it goes fine on standard PULP.

I do run Optimax or Ultimate everytime though mainly just for the added power and k's from a tank.

As said above, the price difference isnt a whole lot. Drive real easy for a day or two out of each tank and that'll offset the added price.
