Hi Guys,
I have noticed a strange issue with my ED, when I give it a boot it will make a rattle sound under load at around 3000 - 5000rpm. It doesn't do it when there is no load. About a year ago I changed the spark plugs, coil and leads changed, fitted a new dizzy cover and had the fuel system pressure checked and fuel rail cleaned as well as the timing corrected. So I am unsure if this would pinging or something else... Any help would be great. Cheers |

If it was a year ago it would be due new plugs.
Should change the fuel filter too.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around! |

Yeah? I thought plugs lasted for a few years...
I will give them a change over the weekend and see if it helps. Cheers |

Check balancer hub is still firmly bonded to inner section first. Then check base timing in diagnostic mode is set to 30 BTDC.

Mine pings on 91ron, no issues with 95-98 or 100ron though.

They are designed to run on 89 RON, so if you're pinging on 91 there is something wrong. Over-advanced timing does not help power, economy or engine life

I think mine pings on 91 as a result of the AU maf and throttle body leaning it out. I also found with my old ED, just the odd tank of 98 would stop it pinging on 91.

RON is RON regardless of country, it is a laboratory measurement on a knock engine under defined conditions. US does not use RON, it uses (RON+MON)/2. An AU MAF (or parts thereof) on an unmodified E-series ecu is generally a poor combination that can run both lean & rich at different areas in the airflow measurement range. eg With an AU MAF housing & sensor I have measured as rich as 10:1 under moderate (not even WOT) acceleration above 3500RPM. That's 2.5 points off the maxiumum power 12.5-12.8 sweet spot for the SBF, so powder is being lost as well as excessive fuel consumption. A factory E-series MAF will run at or slightly above 12:1 under the same conditions, so much closer

I would give your MAF a clean first....10 bucks for a can of MAF cleaner and 10 minutes works sorted the pinging in my DL...it was doing the same as what yours is doing.

I can only imagine how much more I could get with a j3 tune.

I havnt seen the AU sensor and loom but was, for some reason, under the imression they had different wiring or something? So I just use my EB sensor in the AU housing. When I eventually get a J3 tune should I use the EB sensor or an AU one?
