Hi,
Has anyone fitted a Pod Filter( K&N) or filter setup with associated pipework to a Windsor 5 litre EFI V8? I'm not that happy with the genuine Ford airbox and snorkel, takes up a lot of space and I find it awkward to check or change the air cleaner element .

Well a pod filter will feed hot air to the engine as opposed to the snorkel setup. The larger EL GT style snorkel is more than enough to feed a good volume of cooler air to the engine and is far cheaper to obtain, and I've never had much drama to remove the top airbox cover to get to the panel filter on mine. How often do you actually need to check up on your filter?

Sure! if you mount your pod filter directly alongside the engine the air to the engine will be hot, I agree. The airbox cover on mine jams in the corner and must be pushed back as well us up against the rubber connection to the MAF to check on the state of the filter element. I check the air cleaner element usually each time I check the fluid levels. If it's dirty I blow it out with compressed air. I replace it as required. The clips on the airbox cover outboard side are not too easy to access, (I currently have 3 clips only) and the cover does not appear to seal all that well. My partners MX5 has stainless screws to fasten the airbox cover, much neater and easier to remove. I guess my arguement is more with the airbox than the snorkel, just wondering if anyone has fitted an alternative setup.

yes I fitted one of these aftermarket pods up and had nothing but trouble
I got a hell of a lot of flat spots so I changed the length of the pipe
even mounted the pod in the box what a big waste of time & money

the standard one is the best one even better if it is a xr8 type!
If you still want to go down this road & you have a xr8 air intake
I`ll swap you the pod & hoses

Thx, 1Bad EF but I think I'll learn to live with what I've got, flat spots I don't want.

to make the airbox lid seal just bend the clips a bit so they are a tighter fit. here is a pic of my aunger snorkel and intake pipe, i can fit my arm through the snorkel, through the airbox and touch the pannel filter inside the airbox. no need for more air than that. on a stock setup the maf will be your biggest restriction
