For the V8's it is a removal of the speed limiter. The auto ECU controls the box, so no change there.
The 6 may be different as the ECU controls the auto as well.

There is little if any benefit in a Police ECU in a V8

Do you want to tell all your mates you have a fully sick police computer that gives you heaps more horsepower and pulls to 6000rpm with hard gear changes and no speed limiter and an extra cylinder welded on that the ecu controls then go ahead haha.

For f**k sake I was just wondering what the hell they had in the way of differences- noticeable or not! I had never seen it come up before and nor had auto tech.

Not much genuine info on these - From what I gather not speed restricted, and gearshift differences?

I also read in a thread, opt20 ecu will not allow 4th upshift until 60km/hr?

Why not try a genuine source instead of wasting your time here, go and call ford or the pig records or something.

Well?

3. Yes, next time take "Jeff's" advise - Im amused that my POXY THREAD annoyed/aroused you so much! :D

i have a ex cop eb xr8, and the easiest way to tell if your car is a ex cop is the build plate will say "opt20", now i have had my ecu out, and mine was chipped, but i am unsure if this was a standard thing with "opt20" cars.
from what i know, the main differences were, there was no speed limiter.
and from driving other xr8's, the gear changes do happen at different revs, but im unsure if that is to do with the chip or not.

as for going to the cops, having worked in a service dept. that used to service their cars, and dealing with their motorpool guys alot, most of them wouldnt have a clue what changes were made to their cars, so you would be best going straight to ford themselves, as i doubt if even most ford dealerships would be able to tell you the difference either, as the "opt20" ecu's were not offered for sale to the public.

hope this helps mate!

But don't worry, he seems to have social issues which mean that whilst we would all like to see him fall flat on his face generally, he seems to take care of that wish for us, just by being 'him'!!!!

Probably has something to do with being dropped on his head as a baby.........

MATE --- GreenCar is okay - you probably took his post seriously. I think he is poking fun at some d***head who try and sell their Option20 Police ECU on Ebay as "fully sick horsepower blah blah blah" or something similar.

There was a guy on here a while back who did think he was the s**t as he had a Police computer...

I read they do hold the car in third a bit longer, no speed limiter and maybe a LPG tune?!!!!! Whatever.

Anyways dude, I see this thread progressed to abuse pretty quickly. Fordmods is a good "first stop" for questions of this nature usually. If everyone could just get back to discussion related to Fords and modifying it'd be a bit better. A little more boring maybe, but somewhat more useful.

Exactly my thoughts mate, just couldn't be bothered tapping the keys to write it!

What a joke some things have come to - life is hard/tricky enough for most of us- without coming on to a forum we all love and being abused for no reason!

And thanks everyone for the reply's worth reading - when I'm not minding the kids I'll get the catch code off the ecu and see what it is.

And I understand this greencar fellow is probably sick of stupid questions, im a novice even im sick of them - But I didn't think mine was a stupid nor wankish "zorst adds 175 kw / which is quicker ef gli/ef futura?" type of question- anyway each to their own!
