I see most people get their EFi intakes ported. When you say ported, are you just referring to porting it to the gaskets and like wise with the heads so they are matched?
My Edelbrock intake has a removable cover on the back 'for easy axcess to porting' but I am confused as to what you would be porting in there exactly? (also if I have a cam made for a 1.6 ratio... that means I can't run alloy heads with a 1.7 roller rocker aye?) thanks guys. |

The problem is mostly with lower half of the factory HO and GT40/Explorer type manifolds. The port size tapers down significantly in size where it meets the cylinder head, and the shape of #1 and #5 runners is a doglog that needs some work...
You may not need to port if you already have an Edelbrock Performer. What heads are you running? |

oh true.. I'm running a EFi performer manifold, to start with I will run some ported E7's. But I will certainly be running some alloy Edelbrock's down the track.
thats why I was also wondering about my camshaft which is 1.6 ratio... I guess I won't be able to running more lift with 1.7 roller rockers when I go for the alloy heads. |

You can run either in most cases.. Its the valve springs that fail due to .030 [Approx] extra lift...
The backing plate comes off for tuning the runners of manifiold ... As they are ported the plenum is made bigger and runners shorter.. Doing this be carefull.. You cannot return... Extrude honeing is another way ? But very expensive.. Almost the cost of manifold...

ah okay.. I'll probably just leave it then. Just wondered, could probably just take the back off and smooth out the runners but I bet any gains wouldn't be worth the effort.
So when I change to alloy heads, I can run 1.7 ratio rollers for extra lift with different valve springs and I won't have to change cams? |
