I've got a manual '96 EL XR8 and do a lot of country driving. I'm happy with the fuel economy (when I keep it around the speed limit I'm using less than 10L/100km) but want to increase the power and start running some decent times down the quarter. HOWEVER, I still want the economy as every 4 or 5 weeks I'm doing 1200km on the highway.

I've been told I can bolt on a supercharger and that can actually increase fuel efficiency. Is this so and if so, is the power increase worth the money that I'd have to spend?

Another option that I've thought about is spending a bit of cash making the motor bulletproof and hooking up a couple of bottles of laughing gas with some phat nozzles for when I feel the need for a kick in the back. I'm thinking that I may have problems with tuning as I'd imagine air and fuel mixes would have to differ when using nos and not using it. Yes? No?

It's got iridium plugs, K&N filter, 3" Lukey Supersystem or something like that (not good with names and details). Apart from that she's stock as a rock as far as the motor goes. I haven't done extractors yet as Geoff at Exhaust Dynamics in Belmont has told me to wait until I know what I'm doing with the motor and then he'll whip up something to suit. Something to do with things and stuff, you know!

I'd chuck a pic or 2 in here somewhere but they're all huge and I don't know how to make them small... arghhh!!! Technology... pffft

No Need to "Bullet Proof" the motor. Mine has run over 60 bottles of DRY NOS and it has never missed a beat. I went from 148rwkw tyo 216 on Gas. and 15.2 to 13.1. Gas is the go, its all you need.

What size kit do you run and is it running on stock internals?

Just tyicked over 215000, Stock internals until recently. Now has a big cam and an awesome set of heads. It now makes as much NA as it used to on NOS. When the heads came off, there were still hone marks in the bore, and that was at 208000.
