Since I have bought the auto I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a bit more of get up and go out of it? Any mods you would like to share?

Extractors of your choice, Cat back exhaust, Yella Terra 1.72 Roller Rockers, Underdrive Pulleys, BMC Air Filter..

Well id start off with shift kit with an auto, and some under drive pulleys.
A free flowing exhaust/extractors would help but will cost a bit more.

It all comes down to how much you wanna spend. If you don't give us a budget then this post will go on for ages.
Eg. Extractors, hi-flow cats and mandrel bent zorst, Trickflow heads and intake man, 347 stroker kit, Vortech blower with intercooler etc, Cold air induction, Shift Kits, Engine management, diff gears, boot mounted jet engine with afterburner. |

Are you familiar with the electronic shift kits? No extra power but makes the gear changes much better.
First port of call is the exhaust. Get that Windsor sounding like it should! For more power, can up base ignition timing and switch to 98RON fuel. Next up in the $$$ stakes would probably be underdrive pulleys. Check out the extreme velocity section of Fordmods - shane's got some great products. Also has very unique MAF sensors....

Well, the 'common' windsor was apparantley tuned for regular unleaded (mine didnt like it much!). However the FBT aint no common setup and i think was tuned for minimum 95RON. Basically, i'd be careful if you were to start playing around ur timing as FBT (and GT) prolly has a degree or two advance over standard donk. It's important to set the engine into 'base timing' mode. Basically in diagnostic mode, when the revs increase and hold, EEC holds the timing static. If you fail to do so, you may be assuming 28* BTDC but EEC may be holding it at 25* BTDC or 32 or 18.... if in diagnostic mode it will hold it constant. I forget if its clockwise or anticlockwise, but its a matter of loosening the bolt that holds the dizzy in and turn it x degrees. Little bit at a time, testing each time for pinging under load. More advance the better, assuming no pinging in any conditions (ie. dont up timing when its cold and go thrashing around in the heat)

On that note, my car doesnt like anything less than 95ron thats for sure, and i doubt ill play around with it for the fact that you may be right about it being different from normal.

Its a set of pulleys that has your water pump, alternator, etc. running at a lower speed compared to that of the engine for the standard set up.

Yeah, what he said! Basically reduces the load these items place on the engine, meaning more hp can make it to the wheels. Benny101 - yeah the shift kits are awesome Just dont use it all the time, lol.

are the underdrive pulleys only used on the V8 or th I6 as well

I only installed a resistor loop to my IATS (intake air temp sensor)today & I found an easy 15hp for only $15,this tells the ECU the incomming air is 0 degrees c ,therefore more dense and more air in the cylinders so the ECU compensates this by enrichening the mixture. To take total advantage of this mod install H.E.G.O mods to tell the ECU that too much oxygen is passing thru the exhaust (lean mixture) so it also fools the standard ECU into enrichening the mix
This is all you get when installing a chip but you must be careful not to over fuel the engine (keep monitoring you're plugs if not done on a dyno) If you're only after a street car get the exhaust ports opened up to the size of the passage as they are very restrictive & just clean up the inlet ports, this is good for around 15-35hp depending on how far you go. If you have a HO inlet manifold either toss it away or port the s**t out of it so the runners are equal size to the heads (smallest part of the port)
