Hey guys, dont venture in here much, but I am looking at getting a EL XR8 in the near future. Just wanted to ask you more knowledgeable people what the power limit of the block is? Reason I ask is I've been looking at a 347 stroker XR8 which has 300kw @ engine and I know down the track I'd love to supercharge it. Would the block handle 300rwkw? Keep in mind I wont be doing burnouts etc in it, but I've heard from a few people that the 302's (at least in stock form) can handle only about 400hp @ engine before they die on you.

Maybe I'd be better off getting a stock XR8 and putting a better block in it down the track and then perhaps supercharge?

Any assistance and advice will be MUCH appreciated!

There are varying opinions but somewhere around 500hp is the limit, the strokers put more side load on the block so are more of a problem. 300rwkw is about the max I would want to go and a supercharged stroker will get you there fairly easily. Dart of Ford motorsport blocks are a lot stronger and will set you back around $3k.

your normal every day run of the mill 302 block will do 550hp and should last

if tuned good it should be ok if u start runing a f**k tune it'll help it split in half (see pic above)

if you are after more power next step wouold be mexico block then a A4 then u go to dart etc
whichh will do 1000+

The mexican blocks are a little rare arent they? One would think if someones forked out enough $$ to build an engine to run up around that 500hp mark, they can spend a few dollars more and get the right block for the job - Dart!

High rev'ing and high boost are to big contributor to windsor's split block syndrome.

yes true the mexico blocks are hard to find altho they are also about 2/3s the price of a DART

all depends on how much power you want and your budget personall if your got wanting anymore then 500hp a stock block would be fine

there not built for roller cam but you can run rollers in them, may need diff parts but its possible, never done it myself tho.

World also make a good block, beefier than dart, 6 head bolts per cyl, and cheaper too.

But dart sportsman is the most cost efficient, about 2200-2500, rated for 1200Hp or so, 4 bolt only on 3 middle caps.

Plenty of mustang guys on the corral push over 400rwhp on stock blocks. Revs and nos are killer.... they seem to get reliable 400rwhp with well tuned blower setups...
