Hi guys. New to the forum and wondering if anyone can help me with a simple question. I have a 79 Marquis and need a new PS Box. Just wondering if I need one from an XD/E/F or do I need one from an XA/B/C. I have no idea if there is even a difference. I know that there are differences in the PS Pumps, but not sure about the boxes.

Cheers

Welcome Porchy. I remember looking at your Marquis on AFF.
Im not sure about the XF box , have heard they are different , but the XD XE one will work fine.

the outlet on the xf box is different but usable.

Otherwise the XD-XF box's are all the same. Make sure you get a rebuilt one with the roller bearing top plate so it lasts a while.

Thanks guys. The info helps. I am just trying to stop the leak without having to send mine in for a rebuild and be without a car for the time being. Unfortunately the XB and the GTS are off the road as their regos have run out and I am waiting a few months before putting them on club rego.

Where is it leaking from??

It should only take a day for a local power steering place to replace the seals and do the top plate.

I know the parts are $135 or so or you might even be able to do it yourself. suzukisuper on ebay sells the kit with the roller top plate

Hi Nigel,
Not 100% sure. Just a nice puddle on the deck under it every time I park for a while. I have also scored myself a new pump (teardrop style) to replace the leaking barrel type. Need to get a chance to take a good look at the box to determine where in particular it is coming from.

Is it leaking from the Pump side of the car, or the box side?

The hoses often leak, and many people replace a pump when a line is the problem. Also worth checking if the leak is from the top of the box where the inlet and outlet are.

You'll need an adapter for the new pump unless you got it with it. The guys at my power steering place were nice enough to lend me it for my XF - its for a C2 -> Saginaw pump conversion. It has a right angle in it so you can use your factory hose.

The front seal is gone in the pump but thankfully the new one has the adapter that you mentioned. The box may just be the lines from a closer inspection.
Hope it is. I'm also pretty pumped because I just scored some new cloth for my monaro retrim. I know it isn't a ford but the material is XC houndstooth so I suppose that is ok

Are you able to post a pic of the adapter you have? - Mine was *massive* - and I'll be looking for something a little smaller for next sag. Conversion
