Definately sounds like valve stem seals.

They cost next to nothing, you should replace the rocker gaskets while you're at it.

Now the hard part, they take a bit of doing but you need the right tools to do it, you'll need a valve spring compressor and also an air compressor to fill each cylinder with air to hold the valves up.

I done a Clevo in the car in under an hour start to finish, but i've done quite a few.

If you were in Melb i'd help you out with tools etc, you can make a spring compressor out of an old rocker arm, i'll take a pic as i have one in the garage.
The hard part is making or getting the fitting to screw into the head with a fitting for the air line.

The Valve stem seal, seals tightly with the valve stem and in the clevo, goes up and down with the valve (Umbrella type). Over time the seal hardens and cracks or wears and loses its seal on the valve stem. This allows oil to pass the seal, move down the valve guide and be burnt. There should always be a little oil getting past to lubricate the valve guide but not too much.

The reason you get a puff of smoke on startup is the oil has had time to accumulate either intop of the piston or valve, and is burnt all at once on startup. You may be able to notice an amount of smoke while running also.

I used felpro stem seals and im 90% sure the short ones go on the intake and the long ones go on the exhaust valves...it was a while ago though, double check that before you start. I just went to check on some old 302 heads but they were all the same size.

You may find most of yours are in the sump, seen plenty of that in Clevo and Crossflows.
The last time i had my Clevo heads worked on, my mate machined them to take Gemini stem seals, never had the problem again.

If you have trouble getting an air fitting to work or even just finding one, I have used some thin rope & fed it into the cylinder through the plug hole. Wind the piston up & it'll hold the valves up fine. Make sure that you leave enough hanging out of the plug hole to get it back out when you are finished. Works a treat on valiant hemi 6's.

One thing with me, i don't spin s**t!

An air ratchet has all rocker arms off in a few minutes, a few minutes and all the plugs are out.

I've done quite a few Clevo's and 4.1's in the car so i know exactly which way to go about it.
It would probably take me longer now, i was young and keen back then, these days i just CBF.

Hey Walker next time I'm heading to work can I call in and see those fairies please?
Are they any thing like what was posted on here a few months back? LOL
Anyway
My old man taught me the rope trick and also a modified screw driver trick,
When I was running Dato's they needed to be done once a year,
Due to them being s**t.
Whilst working at engineering company I ended up modifying the valve guides
and used Chev stem seals (copper over rubber bells with a retaining spring).
