Hey Jagga,
You may better off buying a crate engine rather than rebuild yours especially if you want more out of it. A friend of mine recently came across a 200kw AU crate engine for $4200 which we then fitted to his EB. It was going to cost in the region of 2 grand to do a stock build on his original 5.0. He's very happy with the results because he's now got an engine with higher performance and has not had the hassel of taking out his old engine, waiting to have it rebuilt then putting it back in. We did the swap in one weekend and he now has some left over parts he can sell off. If that's not enough power for you I'd suggest a crate engine from Ford racing. Raceparts in QLD have some good stuff on special at the moment. Grab a Just Parts magazine and Ford racing catalog and you'll see what I mean. Pete. |

Well Jagga,
We got this engine from Amcap(strange considering they are a Boat Anchor specialist!?) over here in Perth. They had ten of them but we got the last one. Originally the price was $8300 but of course they never sold any. It didn't go straight in but that's because you need to mix and match things a bit. To get his going as quickly as we swapped the balancer for an EB one, put the EB distributor in, EB water pump,EB T-body, EB 19lb injectors and extended the ACT sensor wiring to mount it in the inlet tube which came from an AU. We also made a "special" spark plug socket so we could use the EB headers on the GT40P heads the AU engines come with and made up some ignition leads with 90degree ends for the same reason. I don't know where you would get one of these engines over there but it's really a case of how much power do you want and do want to pay for it? Ive seen so many cases of people building engines because they think they can build the same power for less money than a crate engine....all of them end up paying more. It's not always immediately apparent but once they work it out and/or add the extra cost of fixing something that broke because they skimped on a particular part, it certainly becomes apparent then. The Just Parts magazine is a good start for you because there are lots of advertisers from all over the country. Many have prices for you to compare so you start to understand what things are worth. A Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog is a Must Have for any Ford rev head too. Ohh s**t I nearly forgot...put a 351 in it! Cheers, Pete. |
