Got to the point with the car that i really need to get the dizzy done. I've just cracked the s**t in a big way after trying to get about the sixth MSD timing computer (#8981) in as many weeks from eBay and getting auction sniped on each one of them. I had planned to run the 8981 along with a 7AL-2. Now i'm just going to get the stock dizzy graphed and be done with it. I can always go to the MSD gear at a later date.
Cam is an unknown and the dizzy would currently be graphed to suit petrol. Diff gears are presently 2.77:1 which isn't working too well with the high stall. Finally picked up a 9 inch housing for the XE so i can drop in my LSD carrier with 3.5:1 gears. Maybe it will get off the line now. I'm experiencing detonation as it is. The car also seems to be running too hot. Often going to 3/4 on the guage (and the car has a big 4 core rad, high flow thermostat, new hoses, viscous fan and shroud). Wondered if the high stall was to blame for a while as after a hard run it does heat soak quite bad. Now i'm convinced its the timing that is causing it. 351 Cleveland in an XE Straight gas 2v iron ported heads (prob CC?) cam unknown but prob mild, apparently did 330hp on fuel c4 stage 3 3500rpm 10" stally 3.5:1 diff gears 15" rims I'm thinking: 8deg initial 24-26 total All in by 2600~ish No vac advance Its just a stock BOSCH electronic dizzy. Anyone done a regraph on one of these at home? Just wondering if this is as simple as removing the reluctor to access the springs and weights and then adding some material to the weights and stopping them from throwing out as far. I've just priced a re-graph at $65 to $95 depending on whether or not they have to pull it completely apart to lube it up. Please share your thoughts on the ideal settings for this combo. I've just pulled the numbers outta my a** based on what i think will work. __________________ XE ghia 351 because i forgot that cubes are fun

Wickid that was the name of the bloke that i was originally referred to but the person that told me didn't know for sure. Could only remember he was in Greensborough, which is not all that far from work.
The quote i received was from DIZZY'S GALORE in Coburg. Also has a good rep. /off to white pages.

Yeah I used to live just down the road from Paul Turner, he regraphes my first one and did a custom joby on my second build. Cant remember the cost but it was probably cheaper than $150 (dont quote me on that tho) and he did it in a few hours I think I had lunch at his place while he did it... all fun living just down the road from a pro drag racer

Yep Paul is the man, i actually sent Mikgan there.
Paul rebuilt my whole XD electronic dizzy years ago and curved it for LPG, he fitted the XC shaft in that i supplied as i was running a blue block, i think it only cost me $150 all up. That was a long time ago and he's always looked after me as i sent a lot of people to him. My dizzy is set to 10 deg below 1000 rpm, has a total of about 28 by about 2800 rpm from memory. |

Ended up going over to Dizzy's Galore in Nth Coburg this morning before work and got here late. Now i come in and find that Paul is 2 mins away from La Trobe Uni where i work. Grrrr Oh well next time.
Seems that this is the go: 14 initial 30 total all in by 2800 I'd probably be a bit happier with 28 total but thats just me being cautious.

2 deg wont make much difference, can always back it to an initial of 12.
I played with the timing on my clevo bumping a cpl of deg either way and made no difference, but realistically it had a 2800 stall so it was at max advance from the word go lol. |

You right, easy enough to just bring the inital timing back a tad if necessary. Well next thing to go in is the new diff. At this point i'll actually get it on a dyno and start checking mixtures and looking for some more power out of it.

What LPG setup are you running on it?
I had the Impco 425 with E type convertor, still got it all sitting there for when i rebuild another Clevo one of these days and get the XD back on the road. |

I would keep the vac advance if I were you. You're just throwing away torque and fuel economy by removing it.

Why bother when max advance is in by 2800 Pete?
I can understand on petrol, but not LPG! As we know, LPG burns slow at low rpm, and quick at high rpm, that's why they run the fast curve down low and drop it to 28 deg before mid range. |
