I,m after people's opinion should i rebuild and stroke my engine 5.0L (200,130 KM) or buy a Ford racing 350Hp Crate motor. Need new intake manifold both options but only need intake on crate motor. Budget $10k. Any thoughts would be great.

for a ten grand budget i would build and stroke the baby will get more rwhp than a crate motor for ther same price although no headaches and no bull s**t with a crate motor get the engine put it in and start it they are all bench tested where they are built. but getting one built will give you more satisfaction and more bang for buck ifyou find a reliable good engine builder and who no,s you might even learn something when its going together....crate engine will be less hassle . remember HP is cheap reliability isnt...

But the crate motor is new , still is a 5.0 litre and makes 260 Kw , thats why i keep thinking it's the better option.

if you spend 1o grand on stroking out the donk you have i would think it would then be new as well ???....is that pitty on your avatar yours or just a pic... i spent 12 grand on my internals well it was complete short motor and im expecting to have 500hp at the treads have a look at my pics ive got some phottos in there but that was just for the short motor but that also got me a set of alloy 3V CHI heads.

I was thinking everything is new not just the enternals. Half your RwHp is heaps for what i'm after.
Is'nt stroking it+heads+intake manifold going to be about the same price as the crate motor+ intake. And less time of the road. Or am i just blinded by the glossy ad's |

depends who builds your motor for you it might be better for you just to go crate motor less trouble to organize and you can probably get it installed for inside that 10 grand aswellprobably yr best option but me personally i would build..

Crate motor's seem to be good but that's by looking at the add, i dont know anyone personally that has used a crate engine and there not bad in price as well.
As 409 stroked said you do get more satisfaction from it & it you get a engine builder to put a motor together for your and tune it they do go thr extra mile to help you out just like Sam did with me. Very helpful guy and if i want something he sends me in the right direction. If your really keen for that money Sam performance can build you a motor but it would be smaller than my 347 that i have for sale but still would be a animal on the street. Have a look at my add and if your keen i think we can can organise something between us and sam and get your car sent down here and fitted and tuned & sent back with ur budget.

The thing is the crate motor for power is'nt that far of your stroked motor and its still 5.0. litres . This is my problem.

Superchargers lose 30% power on hot days. I personally think do it yourself & get a workshop to build and tune a motor becasue if you have any troubles like tapping in the motor and all then who are you gona see to help you sort out your problem. I know a guy who put a motor in his car & it was tapping and he took it to workshops and they werent interested.

Crate engine is the way to go. Quite simply... you can't build what they do for less money. Of course I wouldn't buy a crate engine with only 350hp but that's just me.

I am with Pete. Crate is the best bang for bucks you can get bar none. And a stock 5.0 block will be close to its limit at 260rwkw, The crate is a 302 sportsman block and doesnt have the limitations of the stock 5.0

I'm going with the crate motor, its just a better starting point for future plans. As for buying a crate motor with only 350Hp, thats more than i need for a 60km a day daily driver.
