Just wondering what the recommended modifications would be to make my ol XR go a little quicker. You know, bang for your buck kinda thing. I'm not planning to go for forced induction though, cos insurance wont like me very much otherwise. I am currently getting 150kw at the rear wheels which is certainly go'ey, but to go the next step, what do you folks think? :idea:

I have the following so far...
(185kw original engine with manual transmission)
2.5" exhaust;
extractors;
high flow cats;
SS inductions cold air kit;
Unichip; and
K&N Filter

Underdrive pulleys and the Yella Terra 1.72 ratio roller rockers are pretty much the best bang for buck mods that you have left. The rollers can give you between 5-10rwkw for $440 and the pulleys will give you a few kw as well.

After that you're looking at serious head, intake and cam mods which is big $$$. Alternatively, you could look at getting a shift kit (if you are auto) and get better diff gears.

Yeah roller rockers and underdrives are all the cheap mods that are left . Heads are a big restriction so if you really want much more power you will have to look at changing them, along with a cam.

Mr Landau is the man you want to see for underdrive pulleys. I have a set from him and am very happy. It's a set of three pulleys that allows you to keep original belt size. You can definately feel an improvement.

Have you still got the STD Maf there was aguy selling 70mm AU ones on Ebay . Bought one of him for $175.00 heaps bigger than STD 55mm one .He told me he had more to sell . Have his direct Email if your interested .

I expect i do have the standard still, cos to be honest i dont actually know what that is... I no doubt show my limited mechanical knowledge here.

If you can send me the address that would be great, and i will look into finding out more about it. Is it expensive to install? If i put this sort of thing on i expect i should do it all in one hit, and have the unichip remapped for it all at the same time. Again save a few dollars, but mostly just to get the most out of each modification.

Someone who actually has some experience can tell me if this is right or not, but to get the most out of changing over the MAF to 70mm wouldn't it be a good idea to match the Throttle Body and port the intake? So 70mm MAF -> 70mm TB into ported 70mm intake (they are 65mm stock?)

Speaking of MAFS' and throttle bodies, does anyone have any experience with these mods on a dual fuel car? In other words, does the LPG mixer/restrictor prevent any gain from the larger items?

The Maf is the part bolted to the airbox lid ,it took me about 20min to change,even with STD 55mm (EB) throttle body seemed to make a
difference , I supose if a bigger snorkel & K&N filter can give a power increase why can't putting a bigger MAF
Anyway Emailed the Guy & he said it was O.K to put address didn,t want to p_ss him off

There is an SADesign book called "5.0 Ford Dyno tests" which goes through this subject. They tested a stock TB, 65mm, 70mm, 75mm and 90mm on both stock and modified motors and the near stock 5.0 lost power with the bigger throttle bodies. If you had a high reving/high hp 5.0 or a 331/347 stroker there is gains to be made but it is not nessicary on a stock motor.

Phenolic spacer - 3/4inch. You'll definately notice it, especially with CAI.

Essentially a plate that goes between the upper and lower intake manfolds. Moves the upper intake/plenum away from the engine and reduces intake temps significantly.

But if you do get around to putting them on, be careful when tightening them. I've heard of one intake cracking. Might have been though overtorqued somewhat.
