You can purchase reco ones on eBay but they aren't cheap. What has happened to yours? Otherwise the cheapest bet is to get a second hand one from the wreckers. I know someone who just recently got one for $135.

mine has rusted out on the inside
due to a radiator explosion last summer, coolant must have gotten in there

I wouldn't mind paying for a recon unit, dont really like s/hand stuff on my good car.

anyone know where to start looking for a reconditioned unit?

Alternators are pretty sturdy and simple devices when you don't spill coolant on it. I just checked eBay and didn't have any luck. Some EB ones but they are only 95A. For your reference, EF are 110Amp, EL are 100Amp. Either the EF or EL will go straight in.

I recently had to replace my alternator in the 5.0lt NF Fairlane, my Auto Elec said he doesn't reco them as most parts are either unavailable or so bloody expensive that it's almost as much as a new one! Having said that they aren't cheap mine cost $545 from Repco which suprisingly was the cheapest I could find at the time, there were two types for mine a 3pin and a 2pin - can't remember which mine was but of course it was the dearer one!

The rotor and stator are pretty solid. What usually breaks are the brushes, slip rings, regulator and rectifier (I would say in that order?). You can buy then (again) on eBay if you're so inclined but it's a b**ch to do:

You know what, that eBay seller has so many alternator parts! I'll bet that he would sell an EF or EL V8 alternator. It wouldn't hurt to message him! Seems very competitive in his prices.
