This happened to my brothers commonwhore but i thought you may be able to help. He was driving it the other day and the engine started missing and making weird sounds (suprise, suprise). anyway, it started running like an absolute bucket of s**t so he turned it off. The whole exhaust system ,from heads all the way to the dump pipe was glowing red hot. No s**t!!! Could it be a broken exhaust valve or pushrod?? Thats my only ideas.

i think this happens when the engine has a very lean mixture, could be oxygen sensor, airflow metre, injectors etc. maybe also an exhaust blockage.

commonwhores suck donkey balls.

mm lean mixture to make the exhaust that hot would have killed the engine i would think

not necessarily enough to kill the engine but sure wont do it any good. check the exaust cat etc.

what model dunnydore is it?

if it's just one cylinder, i'd suspect something mechanical, but if it's all cylinders, it's running very lean, and if damage has been caused, you're most proably gonna be looking at replacing the pistons, rings, valves and possibly getting new valve seats

Its a 1989 VN. I can't figure this car out. We got it started again the other day and its running fine. The exhaust has been discoloured from the extreme heat but other than that there are not signs of anything happening. Could it be a fault with the engine computer and maybe something shorted that day it f**k up?? I can't see it being a mechanical fault if it is running fine now. Bloody bomb-o-dores.
