Sorry ebxr, missed this one and, how good it is to have intelligent discussion too. Anyway yes it is for cooling. The reason the Cobra has no cooling is likely due to the low base rate EGR that it has. Comparing the EGR base rate map between X3Z(cobra) and A9L(5.0HO) confirms this. This would be due to the more efficient burn achieveable with the GT40 heads. Now comparing a 3DFA(ED 5.0) and 2DDA(ED sprint/GT) we see a slightly different scenario where the EGR base rate is more similar between the two and couple that with the heavier vehicle mass we begin to see the reason that the Aussie "Cobra" spec engine has a water cooled EGR plate.
