theres plenty of members who know there stuff in the v8 forum that are happy to help..

How much fuel is it using, ie km's to a tank?
Is it just the tacho going wild or is the car surging
New welsh plugs on a 11 year old car :shock:

smoke= stuffed rings IMO.

And thats about what you could expect out of a mpefi 5.0 k's wise if you thrash it around. 400 would be keeping rpm's under 3,ooo , and just basically nursing it.

Black smoke generally equals rich, which funnily enough also seems to match up with the increased fuel consumption.
I don't think it's a coincidence.

The MPEFI 5Ls are not that much, if any, harder on petrol then the 4Ls.
I can get 450 out of mine easily, thats not babying it constantly either.
I've gotten 550+ out of it on the open road.

I'd be looking at something like a stuck injector?

A dirty injector won't generally be that extreme, if you can get a length of tube, and listen to each injector while it idles, if one or more isn't ticking = stuck.
Did the mechanics have any thoughts on it all, surely they would have checked s**t like this?

Could be faulty MAF too I guess, if you can get a known working one to test.
Pretty hard to diagnose something so vague over the internet.
