G'day, I'm thinking of getting one of these for the AU3 XR8. Apparently quite good gains are to be had. The manifold is off right now so I thought I'd take the plunge.
Here is a link to the manifold: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...view/make/ford And the spacer I'll get to avoid heat soak: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...view/make/ford Can someone with experience with these please clarify the following: 1. It fits on a 220 XR8 Windsor, correct? lol 2. Besides the spacer and manifold, is there anything else required? 3. Edelbrock is recommending also getting their 70mm throttle body - is it necessary? Big gains over our stock tb? 4. There's an adapter for these manifolds but I'm unsure if it's required: http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...illocation=int Any thoughts? 5. Will it fit under the stock bonnet? Looks taller than stock? If not will the fiberglass bulge bonnet fit it? Looking for advice from anyone who has experience with these. Cheers |

Haven't tried it myself, but here's a write up for it.
http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-to/e ... fold-test/ Full of pluses I'd have to say, but the gt40 intake which flows about the same as the explorer type from the AU's is still in the hunt unless you are going to rev the nuts off it. My 5cents worth |

Don't care what brand I get, as long as it's a considerable improvement for the money. The manifold on it at the moment is the stock 220kw AU3 job. |

Just read the article - I see what you mean. Low rpm the GT-40 seems to offer more power and torque.
So the AU3 XR8 220kw engines have a GT40 manifold is that right? In which case it's a pretty good thing for street use? |

The au falcons have explorer intake manifolds, the flow rating and hp achievements for both are about the same.
Your 220 au will already have a 70mm throttle body and the intake modified for it to fit, the rest of the au v8 range got the 65mm. I haven't tried the rpm2 so I don't know, but hp costs money and the 220 should be of a high enough tune to take advantage of the increased flow available with the new intake. But you just have to make sure the motor can rev high enough to use it, ie over 5500. |

If you have a 220, then tickford already did some hand porting on the Manifold (mostly the lower) to enhance the airflow. They also match-ported the Upper-Lower, and the Throttle body to 70mm.
I have a 220 manifold in the shed waiting for its day. Theyre a great engine!. Otherwise, what littleslash said. Tickford only DIY'd a manifold when they went to 5.6 litres |

If you're not changing to better aftermarket heads and a bigger stick I'd stick with your Explorer intake.
