I recently had my BOSS 260 cammed and underdrives fitted. Also fitted oil pump gears as well.

When my tuner tuned the car, he lifted the rev limit from 5800rpm to 6500rpm.

Im a little weary if the BOSS 260 motor is designed to rev that hard?

I know the FG GT BOSS 315 motor revs to 6500rpm.

Dont get me wrong it drives much better, power range from about 3800rpm to about 6500rpm.

But everytime I boot it to the 6500rpm cutout I winse and hope it will hold together.

6500rpm too high for a BOSS 260 motor?

I'm pretty sure that since he fitted the oil pump gears it would be fine.

Otherwise that sort of RPM with underdrives I would be concerned.

Pump gears $1250

Diff gears $1250

Tune with sct $1100

Not sure how safe it is to rev these things.. Makes plenty power though

They are a long stroke engine and if you understand anything about piston speed, I wouldn't be taking it to six-five very often.

Mind you, I don't know a lot about Boss engines, so maybe the internals are OK???

I wouldn't be taking a 260 past 6000 without new rods.

They normally bend like a banana (weakest on the compression stroke), generally don't 'exit the block', but still not something you want happening.

The 290's etc all got a (slightly) better bottom end, and I run mine to 6300 no worries.

ford have the fg gt reving to 6500rpm with a warranty. So the piston speeds would be no different to a 260.

Im just not sure about the rods.. There seems to be some that say ok and some dont think they can handle it?

Is it safer to rev them to 6500rpm n\a or supercharge them and rev them to 6000rpm?

Yes, the piston speeds are the same however the GT build motors get different pistons and rods (to accommodate the different pistons), and they're better balanced than what the XR8 build motors get.

As long as the tune is good (no detonation) the charged/6000rpm option would be safer.
