Hey boys, whilst getting my machineing done, and getting the 20 thou rebore, it turns out 20 thou aint enough, there is still rust and pitting.

The machinest said he can sleeve it, try 30 thou, or get a new block.
I said to sleeve it.
Whats the pro's and cons on sleeving. Will i gain a few extra horsies, or loose a few.
I know diesels have been doing it since the begining of time.

Clevelands are notorious for having thin bore walls. To get them out past 30 is almost unheard of. If you can afford it sleeve it. There are no horsepower gains but if you think about it, you get standard bore sizes again. And if you need to bore it after time, you can take it out almost as far as you want.

and the bores are on centre,no corrosion and heat-cool evenly,as you know the wall thickness of the bores--even :wink: :wink:

depends on cost,if the price is good,go for it or get a new\second hand block,i dont know what a block is worth,but like anything,its only worth what you want to pay for it,and be happy

Being a sleeve designed specifically for cylinder and not block. You'll find the sleeves wll be stronger and wear heaps less....

Sleeves will always be better than the standard bore of a cast block. Cast almost always will have some impurities in them which is a weakness. especially when you bore the cylinders out. With sleeves in there you can guarantee the cylinder wall thickness. You don't need to do all 8 cylinders if only 1 or 2 cylinders are damaged, but if you have spare cash then you could get all 8 done.

I take it we're talking cleveland here?
My Cleveland is .040" over and I have no problems. Mine is a late aussie block which have less core shift problems than the U.S. ones. Use 302 rods and the cylinder walls get less side loading too.
