i say do some breathing mods and then slap a set of 3.45 diff gears or 3.7s if you want more of a change. multiplication of torque is the best seat of the pants mod i say.

Maybe modular specs should be another thread? the requirements are quite different.

"HO engine" means the Mustang / E-series 165kW engine right? Did the Explorer / AU V8 use a different cam to the Mustang / E-series one? Just seems surprising that all the breathing improvements (intake, heads, MAF and TB) only lifted stock power to 175kW... but then the AU tune is pretty soft AFAIK.

Yes, the HO is the Mustang/E series V8. I'm pretty sure the AU cam is a little smaller than the HO cam.
But don't let the numbers fool you, although the HO was originally rated at 220hp (165kw), the yanks downrated it in 93 or so to 200hp or roughly 150kw to better reflect the real figures due to a new rating standard running full acessories. Which also explains why its such a slug in standard form. The Explorer will comfortably kill it. FoA never downrated the V8's numbers cause who would have bought it if it was down on power compared to the 6. V8's were also more profitable. |

Good afternoon,
I know it is a very basic mod but fitting a pod filter and removing the air-box altogether is there any gain from that and how do you get around the sensor that is fitted? Has anyone done that on theirs here? Thanks |

You can do that but all you do is suck hot air in from the engine bay.
You just attach the filter to the MAF sensor...you don't get around it. If you were to make an enclosed box around it with an opening out to fresh air then it would be beneficial. The stock air box flows pretty good so you can just add a larger snorkel to it and/or plumb in an extra cold air tube to it from underneath for example. |

The AU/Explorer runs rings around the HO/E series because of the intake and heads. Whack a set of E 7's and ho intake on your AU and see how much you choke the engine up. |

Hey fellas,
I was reading up on the 302 windsor on the us forums and came across the following. Can this be possible? What I Would Do To Run 12's Assuming sea level conditions, and a standard tranny I would do the following to the car: OPTION A •3.73 gears •Underdrive pulleys •1 5/8" long tube headers (these are most likely too big, but will give you headroom if you go with a blower or NOS) •2.5" Hi Flo H pipe (with long tube headers, most shops can build an H pipe with only 1 minor bend. Cheaper this way) •Bored stock mass air meter (61mm) with K&N filter •Phenolic spacer •Ported stock heads with 1.94/1.6 valves and 1.7 rockers. •Stock camshaft •Stock bottom end with windage tray •190 or 255 lph fuel pump •Adjustable fuel pressure regulator I had a combination like this on two separate occasions. Both cars ran ~13.2 @ 103 mph (12.6 @ 107 mph NHRA corrected for Calgary's 'bad' air). The only difference between the 2 cars and the combo above was that they had 3.55 gears. If you want faster than this naturally aspirated, a good rebuild may help (depending on the condition of your motor). Also a bump to about 10:1 compression, and maybe 4.10 gears. If your motor is in good shape, and you still want to go faster, I would recommend the next step.....forced induction. This was the site where I got the info so not sure how correct it would be (http://tomak3.tripod.com/page9.html) |

I'm assuming those times are from a Mustang, that weighs at least 200kg less than a Falcon does?
If so you won't get anywhere near those times with what seems like a pretty weak combo. Porting stock heads is a total waste of time, as is boring the stock MAF when you can just use a 73mm AU one. Is that combo still using the stock intake, as that's probably the worst part of the whole stock HO engine. |

I believe those times are for a mustang! However still a decent effort with minimal mods.

Whats the difference between E series and AU trans and diff? (too lazy to look through my books)
Auto, please... Both 4 speed, besides "adaptive shift", do these aid in the extra power at all? Hypothetically, if roller rockers, gt40p heads and intake/plenum, 73mm TB, and the larger maf + injectors/tune were fitted to an E series, in effect youd have an AU3 (minus dizzy)... So is it right to assume theres a straight up 220KW? Velocity stacks, besides looking cool, any point?

That was easy. Cheers.
Are the exhaust ports/mounting locations on gt40,40p, aftermarket heads the same (or close enough) as stock E7s? (i know plug angles different, but besides that.) Basically, would whatever exhaust system youve got fitted on E7s, is it able to be transferred across later to whatever heads you go with? Is this also the same with 351 heads? Whats the difference (if any) ?

Usually need different headers due to plug angle but I have Advance headers that came off GT40P heads on my E7's!?
