351's had the same E7 heads as 302's except they have 1/2" head bolt holes. The early 90's Lightning had GT40 heads(with 1/2" head bolts). These heads have the std 45 degree spark plug angle and not the almost 90 degree angle of 40P heads.
Port position is the same for all but the most radical aftermarket heads. |

Awesome, thanks.
Ive come across a 460, that im pretty keen on getting into my ef... Im of the opinion being a stroked 351 (?) It should bolt straight in (?) And bwill accept all the front accessories and mounts etc (?) Is this a worth while adventure, and better than trying to convert a stock HO into something half respectable? Im also in a position where I can get my hands on a reco'd 351 long motor... Which should also swap in fine (?) Therefore bigger cubes/power right out of the box over a 347, And stronger internals... (i think larger bolts, etc? ) Advice? Im leaning towards the 460, purely because 7.5L! I mean, 7.5L!!

If it's the new Z460 from Ford racing it will fit because it's based on a 9.5" deck windsor.
If it's a production 460? it's a bigblock and will not fit just like a smallblock...it will still fit but it's more difficult for sure. |

Im not sure, but id say maybe production?
Its 2nd hand, imported from the states... I thought 460s were just stroked 351s, but im by no means an expert... It comes with a T6 auto too? (pretty sure it said t6 auto) Does this help identify the engine? If it is a big block, would I need to change my stock bell housing/auto etc? Would the efi system, front accesories etc fit? Im thinking now I might be better off going the 351 route?

It's a bigblock. Much bigger and heavier. Everything is different. 10.3" deck height(wiiiiide!), high and long. It'll have a C6 auto. Late EFI ones also had the E4OD which is a massive 4 spd auto. Forget about it.
Check out the new (9.5" deck windsor based)Z460 from Ford racing. For 10 grand it's a bargain. |

Thanks for that.
I guess ill ditch the 460 idea, and go with the reco'd 351W long motor. Just to confirm... The 351 WILL bolt in easy (ish) ?

As a near stock 5.0 HO, fact 4sp auto, has DiFilippo 4>1s, 3" single, K&N, big custom maf+intake already...
What would one expect to see/feel from just AFR 85? Cc heads, 1.7 roller rockers, edelbrock/typhoon manifold (1500RPM +) 70mm throttle body + egr, then tune? 1. Is this a good combo? (and would work well if cam etc fitted later?) 2. Is there a better alternative? (brands, sizes/cc etc?) 3. Any advice on tuning, ive never gone this far with any car... Do I fit a J3 chip and head to any old dyno, or anyone recomend somewhere eastern suburbs melbourne? Dandenong, knox, bayswater, oakleigh areas? Thanks for the advice.

Piston to valve clearance may be an issue with the 185 heads. 165's will work and so will the twisted wedge stuff that have more ptv clearance. I'd personally go the new trickflow 11r heads and a custom cam from ed at FTI.

For that mild engine I'd go the 165's or the TFS. I'd also get rid of the 4 into 1's and fit pacemakers because, unless you're going to up the displacement or the rpm range or compression the 4 into 1's are too big.
I'd use a Moates 1/4 horse to tune it. Having said all that I'd go a 351:) |
